Hi guys on a 404 John Deere with an A pump at
3000 rpm in farm classes, which is the best turbo to
run? Have heard of 3lm-33 and 3lm-466 and s300,
what are some other popular sizes? It has a 2.6x2.8
s300 on it now with 0.91 exhaust housing and it
seems to have too much lag.

Thanks

How much fuel, what size injectors and what injection timing are you running?

The S300 you are running is one of the bigger ones.

What gear and weight class are you running? Any other rules to follow?

We’ve run 466’s with similar sized holset HX52’s in the past, 400cc’s with 4x20’s running 11,500 lb classes running 7th gear or c3-4 in a 4430.

350 cc of fuel with 4x22 injectors, I think timing was
set at approximately 40 degrees. Had a lot of lag
but that's with the 404, also has 0.120" injection
pump lines. I may put 3lm 33 back on it but could
lose a bit of power

I think 40 degrees is your problem, light pro stock guys that run over 4000 rpms down the track run around 40. I’ve seen pistons damaged with too much timing. Just wondering why 40 degrees, most 3000 rpm Deere’s are not over 30 degrees, the sweet spot might be mid 20’s, you’ll have to find it by trail and error, we had a Ford 7000 with a big pump and injectors that likes 18 degrees. I don’t think the .120 lines are hurting you, but they are definitely over kill.

You need to setup your combo so you spin out at the big end not power out, max power is unless if it won’t lug down and keep the charger lit.
