I have two questions - the first involves removing a transmission countershaft from a 3 speed 9n. Manuals show a ring clip to hold the 1st and 3rd gears in place. I can't find this on my shaft, and the roller bearings on each end appear to be press-fit. Can this be?? If I can't get the bearings off, the large gear won't come off, and I can't get the shaft out the top. I have a couple of chipped teeth on the 2nd gear and would replace the shaft if I can get it out... any suggestions are appreciated!
Second question is on the "trumpet" axle castings - I have new gaskets that are about 1/8" too small in diameter for the flange. Ford dealer only has this same size gasket - I know I can trim the paper to fit, but what could be the reason my differential housing and trumpet castings aren't standard??
Ugh!
Thanks in advance, Brian
