Gas hedge trimmer ????'s

Hey folks,
I've got a weedeater brand (excaliber?) gas hedge trimmer that I've had the last 8 years or so. Just never any maintenance (shame on me), gas left in during off season, etc and it has worked fine to maintain my 60 ft or so hedge twice a year. Went to start it a couple weeks ago and it wouldn't start. Very weak to no spark. Thinking it's the plug itself, but if not, it'll be cheaper to replace it than have someone fix it (I'm in Germany so it's not a common thing). If I replace it, common sense says go with Stihl and I am real close to it, but saw a Ryobi yesterday for about 1/4 the price that carries the same 2yr gaurantee that the Stihl does. Gaurantee doesn't gaurantee quality, I know, but it's got me wondering if the Ryobi may be all I need. Anyone know if they are any good?

Thanks, Dave

I never had luck with 2 cycle machines until I started buying Stihl. Now I have a Stihl 310 Chain saw, BR400 blower, and I can"t recall what the weed whacker is. But... They all run like a top. The blower is 12 years old. I don"t think I"d buy anything but a Stihl.

Made from Clark and IH components.

Back to the topic. Aren't electric trimmers safer in that they start/stop instantaneously? Maintenance is certainly easier as well. I suspect the electrics weigh less and are easier to operate.
