Binocular repair

I have a pair of 40+ year old Telstar Precision Optics binoclars that I really like. The problem is they are getting cloudy. Does anyone know where to get them repaired?

You can buy a much better pair than those, for half what a repair will cost. It may be hard for you to believe but that have made significant advances in binoculars in the last 40 years. I upgrade every 10 years or so and the old ones end up in each of the vehicles and even a set in the tractor.
If you wear glasses check out the new Leupold Cascades.

Cloudy as in condensation inside the optical train or as in scratches on the objective lens? You can try to remove the eyepieces and let it dry out if it is moisture. Not much you can do about scratched glass, short of replacing it, which is not worth it.

Thanks everyone for the replies, they are cloudy/hazy internally.

Gordo, you have stated what I have been thinking, just hated to give up an old favorite pair that has been great for this long. Yes I do wear glasses, thanks for the Leupod info.

If they are cloudy inside, its because the seals leaked. Opening them up to let them dry out dont work because the seals are still bad (thus will leak again) and because from the factory, they are filled with a dry/innert gas like nitorgen so they wont get foggy. If they are foggy now, thats proof posative that they leaked and let in humid air.

Every item under the sun seems to have collector groups now days, you may be able to hook up with them to find out if anybody does reasonable repairs on them if they mean alot to you. Like others said though, they got some pretty good ones for not alot of cash now days.

I sure like Steiner, but can't afford the best models. I would like to get some of the nice one that have image stabilization built in.

I have a little 8X30, $200 paid, but they are still good.'

somewhat of a small player in the optics world, but if you're looking for some decent glass, you can pick up a pair of Sighttron bino's for under $100 off ebay. Have a couple rifles wearing their scopes today, and a new one on the way for another.

I would put them in a warm place or in the sun for a few days and see what happens. Sort of like drying out a wrist watch that has become fogged from humidity. Not a perfect fix but it might work.

Have a weaver K 2.5 on the 30-06 and it fogged
during wet weather during deer hunting about 40
years ago. Well, what to do. Took the end cap off,
warmed it real nice for a long time, put a little
plain old gun grease on threads. Used it for several
years after that , no problem. Horse crud luck,
probably, but I had nothing to lose. Sits in gun
cabinet now, haven't shot it for maybe 20 years.

dont often do it ,but ibought this months shotgun news.there an ad in there for a guy who repairs /rebuilds bino's and riflescopes.

Wont work. The bad seal that let in the moist air and let out the dry gas wont be fixing itself. Gotta fix the seal or its a temp fix at best, usually a total waste of time.

The only time trying to dry out optics will work is MAYBE if they were disassembled by an unknowing user, not realizing they are filled with dry gas and not just atmospheric air. In that case, if the seal is good but just opened, MAYBE you can get dry enough air in them for it to work.
