Repairing a plastic heated drinking tank

I have a heated 30 gal drinking tank for the horses with a crack in the side. The crack extends from the top of the tank and stops just before the heated section. And ideas on how to repair this tank? I need the tank for the winters on Wi. Thanks!

I"d try bolting a strip of sheet metal on each side, with lots of silicone on each. Hopefully the horses don"t have access to that side to bash on it?

Might want to drill a hole at each end of the crack for stress releif before siliconing and bolting patch on. Another patch technique might be to use a soldering iron and strips of plastic from a milk jug to melt and patch the crack. Have done that with some broken/cracked plastic items.

I'd attach metal strips on both sides with inner
tube gaskets between the strips and the tank.
drill holes as necessary and use 1/4 inch bolts to
tighten down. I've repaired a few metal tanks this
way. Don't see why it wouldn't work with plastic.

Buy a new one. The plastic has become brittle and more cracks will form soon. Before long it will shatter as if made of glass. It will not hold up.

Better yet, get rid of the horses.

I agree. About the tank anyway :)
