I can t hear deer coming

Mine are inexpensive gun muffler earmuffs. Each side has a separate microphone, and speaker. They are fair sound quality. Suseptable to wind noise. Good on cancelling gun noise. Not however going to give you beyond human hearing capabilities.
 
I always figured if sound of deer walking was amplified enough to hear other noises would make it sound like you was in a hurricane. Take a kid with you.
 
I have been using Remington R2000 ear protection for several years. My hearing has been going downhill since working the flight line in the Air Force (1969-1973) so I want to protect what I have left. I could hear my daughter whispering 6' away but when I shoot (shotgun or 30.06) it shuts off to only a soft thump sound. But I have also had deer walk right under my tree stand (about 10' high) and never heard a thing. But I had seen them coming down the trail so no surprise to me.

Any of these might not help you hear deer coming at the moment but protect the hearing you still have so you can hear your kids/grandkids.
 
For deer hunting, I use ear plugs with diaphragms in them. They pretty much let normal sound through, but at a sharp noise like a gunshot, the diaphragms slap shut and block the noise. They must work, 'cause I can never remember hearing the gunshot afterwards.

About 15 years ago, a hearing specialist made a convincing speech that my hearing would never be better than it was at that point in time. My hearing is still pretty much normal, and I intend to keep it that way. I have ear plugs stashed all over, and anytime I do anything that makes noise, in go the plugs.
 
Yes and yes...... but, they will amplify all the other sounds..... expressway 2 mile away and the trucks sound like they are under you stand, if the wind is blowing.... forget it. I carry a set of regular muffs with me and usually have time to slip them on before I shoot.
