hitch question

At a surplus place yesterday, saw a rack of Buyers towing hitches. Haven't seen them there before so I don't know if it's a one-time purchase and don't know which one would fit my truck. Are they any good or something to stay away from? Broke my old hitch towing a mini-excavator a while back and I sure miss having one on the truck.

There is only one brand of hitch I would trust for a heavy load like that,Reese. The others I have found are only rated for 10,000# gross, 500# thong weight. If you can find it in the history here, there was a gentleman who had one break at the welds. T-Bone, new Ford truck if I remember right.

They look pretty beefy. Some that I saw had the square tube through the side plates, some were welded between like my old hitch. Website shows both Class 3 and 5. 504, my old hitch failed from rust that I didn't see, not overload. It was a tiny rental excavator on a single axle tilt bed. On one side the square tube twisted. On the other the side plate tore. I felt it pulling hard and stopped to find the jack's skid plate was running on the pavement. The safety chains wouldn't help if the hitch comes off.

Brown Swiss, I had the same thought.

When I bought my 7700# trailer the seller told me that I needed a solid bar stock type of drawbar instead of a tube drawbar for that heavy a trailer. So I got one from him.
