Been Thinking About

Putting an engnine on a 6ft Woods finishing belly mower I have had sitting around and make it a pull type. Far Fetched idea I know but what would be a good engine to power such a thing? It has 3 blades.

Most finish mowers turn backwards from regular mowers so just putting a large lawn mower type engine would be difficult.

Woods made a right hand and left hand belly mower so they had right hand and left hand blades. Dad bought left hand blades for his five foot right hand Woods mower and put them on. Didn’t cut worth a darn. LOL. I don’t think there was any difference in the deck. You could probably match blades to your rotation.

Before going to the trouble of powering it, might want to do a mock up dry run, see if you like it.

I've known a couple of people that bought pull behind mowers only to end up selling them for a loss because they didn't like them.

Something with a governor,a clutch and a gearbox to slow it down so you can keep the engine rpms up.

Daddy had a 5 ft. with a Briggs model 23 on it. Twisted belt drive to center spindle. in some going, 5 ft was about all the model 23 could handle.

I have a lot of pine trees, with low hanging limbs to mow under in our yard.
So I took my 917 Allis Chalmers hydro's 4' mower deck, and side mounted it to the 917. Put an electric motor on the deck. I power that electric motor with a 4000 watt belt driven generator, driven by the 917.
