Yard Machine chipper-shredder with 5.5hp Tecumseh engine.

I'm trying to remove the impeller to use the engine on a woodsplitter.

Looks like a single capscrew into the crankshaft.
I'v put a wheel puller on it, with prying at the outer edge of the impeller.
Used a little heat (can't get to the sweet spot) and froze(cold) the capscrew.

Need help .......

Would prying on just one side of the impeller be worth trying?

That may be a real bear to get off, especially if it's sheared the key and spun, or rusted in place.

Any way to drill some holes in the impeller and get a puller on it?

Those have a rough life, common for them to have bent or twisted cranks.

I can remember an old Craftsman shredder where we had that part red hot before it finally budged. I was beginning to wonder if we would melt the crankcase.

Got it off
Wedged one side only. used a wheel puller. heat on the hub, froze the capscrew.
used a BFH to hit the wheel puller screw.

then.......
the impeller has a threaded bore a little larger than the crank bore thread.
There is a tool which bottoms in the crank bore, and threads in the impeller, so
that tightening the tool pulls the impeller off the crank.

But I didn't need it - this time!

Since your after the motor, take a cut off wheel and split the impeller right at the key way. by doing so at the key way you won't damage the motor shaft. Once its split take a chisel and give it a hit right in the cut off wheel crack. it should open it up and come off.
