First, thanks to all that replied. I have been trying to dress the hardened sear on an old rifle I've been working on and all I've been doing is ruining steel files without scratching the sear face. So based on the replies I went to HF and bought a set of diamond files for $5. With minimum pressure it cut the sear like butter. Only took about half a dozen light strokes.

Do you mean the red, blue, yellow set? They work for sharpeing knifes and tools too. With a little water on them when in use I havent worn mine out yet.
