Drill Bits - part 2

Went to bed, but am up again with stomach acid. Oh well.

While up, I thought I'd try looking into this Drill Hog company; you know, see their website, see how long they've been around, etc. Ran across something quite interesting. It would "seem" that the label calling itself "Drill Hog" is not the actual manufacturer, but a seller. The website https://drillhog.com/ was created in 2015. There is a blog, but with only one entry. Also, When clicking on their Products link, they show ONLY one item -- a 29 pc. drill bit set in metal index.

They certainly seem like good bits, but something does smell a bit about this place. Here's that interesting link I was speaking of:
https://perens.com/2018/05/05/drill-hog-drills/

Even at this link, it mentions how prices are higher on Amazon than on eBay, due to Amazon taking a cut and the price having to be 18% higher. Well, my price was a LOT more than 18% higher than eBay. I've yet to see a legitimate company who would have such varying prices on the same products between Amazon and eBay.

Just wanted to pass this info along. If suspicions are correct, it could easily explain why people claim they cannot get broken bits replaced, or even get reply contact from "The Company".

Maybe next time I'll just order my "quality" bits from Grainger.com. Is getting to where you gotta research [b:600dd2e1b8]everything[/b:600dd2e1b8] you see online anymore. Hmm....now that I think about it, I wonder if Guido really is who he says he is? Or IS he a [i:600dd2e1b8]spy[/i:600dd2e1b8]?!?!? *lol*

G'night all. Gonna try hitting the ol' goose feathers again.

I get my bits from a local independent Mill supply I would wager to say they have every size available up to 1" in 10 packs are individual. I buy 1/4" and down in 10 packs and sharpen 1/4" and up... Check for a local mill/industrial supply house. You are going to break them burn them up loose'em ware them out replace the smaller ones in 10 packs and the larger ones with a good bit. A good sharp bit is hard to beat in the heat of battle...

I use Nachi and Drillco bits... Get a good set keep them replenished life will be good... I look for discarded drill bit index holders remove the lid weld the holders up for EZ access...

Hobo, looks like a nice setup. Would like to hear more about it some time.

I've bought a couple of drill bit sharpening devices over the years but always kept resorting to doing it freehand. Never could get them as nice as I wanted.

It came out of a tool room they were shutting down I got lucky a uncle of mine picked it up cheap he stopped by to show off what he got I would not let him leave with it so we unloaded it at my place...

BTW I had a Darex sharpener home owner version one of the first ones that came out maybe a couple hundred bucks I gave to a bud after I got this one it worked great...

One can find deals on sets from MSC when they have a sale or something. Good variety to choose from and they give you country of
origin.

Their "Hertel" house brand bits have so far been made in the US, probably by C.L. or Morse. I use them at home and we use them at
work too (the index sets) and they hold up well. We work quite a bit of stainless. We also use a lot from Morse (open stock) with
equally good results.

I have see those Drill Hog bits had to think about were.. A guy that works for me sometimes has a set he liked them... I do like the storage can :)....

KCM, I went to their web site and clicked on the "About US" tab and read that they are the manufacturer. Their address is also in Montana. Don't know where that other web site got their information.

I read that also, but cannot seem to find anything to support that "Drill Hog" makes anything at all.

Usually if some company here in the USA manufactures something, they want to publicize it. So far, there's a web site that shows only one product in their lineup (29 Pc Cobalt Drill Bit Set), a blog with one entry (from 2015), etc. Wouldn't be the first time that someone figured how to play with the words a bit to make them "sound" like something they aren't. Don't know about most, but MANY people in the world of sales would call that [color=green:f52ab03425]good salesmanship[/color:f52ab03425].

So long as they sell a quality product for a reasonable price, then I'm OK even if the bits aren't made in USA. If by some chance they aren't made in USA, then they shouldn't be advertised as such. I have no way of knowing one way or the other....just sayin'. And since many folks seem to believe these bits are just Norseman bits with the Drill Hog name in the package, who am I to say otherwise? Heck, I didn't even know about Norseman before this, and look at the AMAZING website they have! http://norsemandrill.com/ Norseman also has a 150-page catalog. They have a brick-and-mortar factory in St. Paul, MN.

My only gripe is in not knowing if this "company" is on the up-and-up. They're selling good quality bits (I like them!!) at a good price. They have this free replacement guarantee against breakage -- as far as I'm concerned, that's just a little sweetening to make the sale. I was raised knowing that drill bits will break. Ain't nothing in the world can change that, no matter WHO makes them.

...While you're at it, go back to the Drill Hog website and click on their "Follow Me on Facebook" link. The Facebook page is about Shopify.com; not Drill Hog.

...I just don't get it. If they truly did manufacture, then why the [b:f52ab03425]lack[/b:f52ab03425] of information in this digital age? Why the lack of contact info for company personnel? Why the outdated website, and a Facebook link to follow them that leads to a different company??

I still say there's more here than meets the eye. [b:f52ab03425]BUT[/b:f52ab03425].......as long as they are able to and continue to sell quality bits for a good price, I can live with the unanswered questions.

...So why these posts? Well, when I placed my order, I had paid money on "good faith" that I would get the listed product. Then someone showed me where the same people were selling the same exact product on another site for a LOT less. Then the web page that just blows my mind. Then in trying to research the company, coming up with a big goose egg. If they were truly proud of their company, they'd flaunt it.....in a [i:f52ab03425]publicity[/i:f52ab03425] and [i:f52ab03425]advertising[/i:f52ab03425] sort of way.

I bought a set a while back from EBay. So far I have not broken one and they cut good in the mild steel. If I break one, I probably
won't bother to try and get it replaced anyway.
