My dial-up provider is soooo slooooow lately and it times out when I am down-loading something, very aggravating! I have Local-net and it is a big JOKE. Will another dial-up provider work better or not! Dial-up the only thing I can afford, but I can not get DLS or service with the cell phone the signal is to weak! I have to forget about looking at the pictures on this site because it times out!

I too are on dial up and I have found that at times when it is real slow of I go on line then go off line then go back on it speeds up a lot. Why I do not know other then maybe the company I am with likes to cause be a head ache

No, it is always pathetically slow.but keep deleting browsing history, temp files, cookies.. cleaning and degrag, it may help.

Your dial-up connection is only as good as the phone line between between your house and the phone company switch. And there's absolutely nothing you can do about that; if you can understand voice over the phone line, your local carrier will say it's good enough. In fact, they probably won't fix it even if voice sounds like crap. Changing local carriers won't help, because you'll still be using the same lines.

Are you sure that your access number is as close to you as possible? You want to be using a number that's on the same phone company switch as your phone, if possible. Try to use access numbers that have the same prefix as yours. Toll-free numbers will give the poorest performance.

I used to work for Corecomm which was bought out by Localnet. MarkB is correct, it's all in the quality of the phoneline from you to the POP (point of presence) It is possible the backhaul from the POP to the Localnet server has too much traffic, but very doughtful with everyone dumping dialup for highspeed. You could see if they have another access number for you. You could also try a Globalpop number Corecomm used them for when we didn't have a local Core number for the customer. I don't know if Localnet gained usage of them or not but worth a try. When using a Globalpop number be sure and use you full email address a your username. Like [email protected]

I have dial up at home. I used to be able to do alot more things there, but anymore all the razamatiz and junk that is built into these sites about shuts it down.
This site is still simple and as such still works better then most others.

When I was still on dialup, I had a deal called "Speed Dial". It speeded up download time by a factor of about four, but upload wasn't changed.

Might ask your provider about it or something similar.

This site is fast because it is mostly still text.

Seems like the faster they make computers the bigger the operating system is making it no faster than before. Can you imagine how fast Windows98 would be on a new computer? Same goes for websites. Faster the connections the more crap they put into their sites.

When I was on dial-up the only way I could get the phone company to fix my crappy line was to tell them my fax machine wasn't working. Then they came out and swapped the line.
Now I have wireless internet. Not great but so much better. $50 a month but worth it. Can you get that kind of service?
