Weather checked tires---- How much is too much??

I have 15.5x38 Summits on my JD 730 Diesel that still have nice tread but are getting a fair amount of checking. Mostly sidewalls but some in the tread also. Any way to gauge how long they can go before the tube lets go? You can see the plies through some of the cracks in the sidewalls. Thanks.

Once the fabric plies start breaking down they are
doomed. Just because you can see the plies wouldn't
get me excited. But once the threads start breaking
you better start looking for something else. Of
course there is always a danger that broken threads
on the inside where you can't see them could chafe
through the tube and cause a flat. I'd be watching
for a better set or else if you are going to buy new
I'd just wait for one to go flat.

i sure you will get a lot of different answers: my thought is, do i want to change them in the garage and use tubes some where later, or wait until flat and change in the futurist corner of the field......

I have a 1947 Allis Speed Patrol over 15 years ago I was told I needed to replace the rear tires on it. I told the guy well when they not longer hold air or I can see the tubes sticking out of the tire I will. Well that was more then 15 years ago and the same tires are still on it and still holding air and I can not see the tubes yet. I have a set of new tires in the back of my shed and have for a decade but hey they are still doing there job so why should I change them till they no longer work

I have a pair of off brand 13.6x28 rears that have cracks 1/2 inch deep on the sides. I use the tractor on the road a fair amount so I reason that I am putting road wear on junk so it costs me nothing. I do have a pair mounted ready to go for when one gives out. I had a pair of 14.9R 28 Pirelli fronts that had cracks 1/2 inch deep in the center and one of them let go. To me it all depends on what the tractor's duty is.

Run em till they go boom. That could be a very long time from now.But keep eyes open for replacements.Dont worry about the tubes, once they are removede from a tire, they will be stretched and will not be reliable in a new tire.In fact, our local tire store refuses to put a used tube in a newer tire.
