My computer was acting different. Screen saver went dark. I immendiately ran a virus scan on AVG and AVG found and qaurantened a trojan. Problem is my Quicken book keeping program(no checking acct # included) vanished. I've read on here to help restore one can move computer date back to before this happened. How does a computer dummy go about this? thanks,Jim

On Windows XP, go to accessories, then system tools and then system restore. I have done exactly the same thing and works fine. Removes the virus too.

Thanks for the reply. I'm on Windows XP, I click on tools at the top of page but can't find system restore. I'll repeat I'm a computer dummy.

Start menu at the bottom left,
All Programs,
Accessories,
System Tools,
then click on System Restore.

I just got one of the nasty malware programs on my other computer, wa slooking at Yahoo sites, came in somehow, my Antivirus program is blocking it's actions, but it's already in the system, so gotta go snuff that out.

If you can get a clue of what you got - the name of it from your antivirus program, or some file names that show up, or a unique sounding message that it types out, or in my case it is the 'System Recovery' malware program, if you google the exact phrase or file name with 'malware' in front of it, you often can learn more about what you got and how to get rid of it.
