gas prices falling

$3.65 at Chevron in surprise Az. today. Was $3.55 at divide Colo. last week on Wed. and $3.85 in Taos N.M.this past Monday.I think it has stalled at around these prices here in the southwestern states, can't say for sure about Calif. as they are usually different about things.JH

Not in my area.

In the Cincinnati area, prices jumped from the 3.79 level (and below) all the way back to 3.99 the day after Memorial Day.

It is common knowledge that local prices are (illegally) fixed by the local retail dealers associations. This is why the prices of all retailers in a given local increase by the same amount and at the same time, which is invariably the morning after the retail dealers association meets.

Though such blatant disregard of both state and federal law has historically been ignored, times are changing. I have filed complaints with the attorny general in my state and have encouraged other knowledgeable folks in the other (tri) states to do the same. Investigation(s) have been opened. You should do so as well.

The costs of illegally colluding to fix prices are high in the rare instances when such crimes are prosecuted, against the wishes of the retail dealers associations and their lobbiests.

The collusion is at the local level level, folks. The oil companies are not the problem.

Pay attention to prices in your area, document the facts, and file complaints with the attorney general in your state. Expect political resistance against investigating the politically powerful dealers associations. This is where your documentation will pay off. Most attorneys general have higher political ambition and will be reticent to investigate their potential allies the retail dealers associations. Despite such political influence, such folks will read the tea leaves and take actions that they believe is in their best interest. If you have documented the facts in your area, you will most likely be able to "convince" your states attorney general to open an investigation in your area, though it may be necessary to mention that you may disclose your documented information to the media.

Send your saving this way to help defer some of the $.36 INCREASE we got 3 days ago. $3.95/9 here this weekend. (Middle of Kentucky)

87 octane at in this northeastern Pa area has backed off from $3.96 a week ago and is now $3.72. Of course just across the border in New York state it was $4.05 last night

Bill Tom,

My daughter and her family live out near Gainesville, GA. Whenever I go to visit her, I end up making endless trips a QT that is a couple of miles from her house. I love their coffee. All of their other "convenience store" stuff is also good, but it's their coffee that I particularly like.

WTF?
It is still $3.95/gallon here in my area of Michigan. It got down to $3.80 or so for a few days then the dollar sank in global trading running gasoline back up to about $4.

why is gas higher in pa than nj and you pump your own? I never could figure that out,? I get my gas in nj before I head to pa because it is always higher in pa

Larry...I'm guessing that there is a difference in STATE fuel tax from NJ to PA. There is a considerable difference on Diesel and I'm sure gasoline is similar. Whatever the federal rate is would be the same from state to state.

Our local gas station likes to run it up fast and when coming down only does so by a cent or two every couple of days. Still, it is down to $3.539. 22 miles to our east it is almost 15 cents cheaper.

BTW, we are in south central MO.

Not around here - $4.159 here at last (shudder) look. (mid-Michigan.) Word "gouging" comes to mind.

I am just northwest of Springfield at Ash Grove, have lived here most of my 69 1/2 years. The house I was born in is next door.

Here in my area of Wash State, gas is about 3.90 a gallon. I think this is due to the lack of demand by us the consumer. I am guessing that by the 4th of July it will go even higher.

FACT: Washington state has the highest tax per gallon of gasoline!

In Vermont we have a lot of Irving Gas stations. Always the first to go up and last to come down.
