Bee-keeping

Today I had a visit from a couple gentlemen that would like to keep some bees on the farm. The one fellow said he is from Nebraska and the other fellow is from a small town not too far from me here in WI.
I would have liked to talk longer with these guys but was pressed for time but I did get the Nebraska mans name and phone number.
I did ask how soon he needs a decision and he said within a few days. I was also told the bees would be coming from Nebraska??
Can you think of any issues that could arise from me having these bees on my property? What about if one of these men were to get stung on my property.....could I be held liable? Any input you can offer is appreciated.

do it
i have had bees here on my farm for several years now. they really helped my orchard, an the garden. the bees are very interesting to watch. we enjoy them very much. we did have trouble with one bee keeper not taking very good of them. i got rid of him. now have a very wonderful keeper here. they have 5 hives here right now but have had as many as 13. most of the keepers will want to put a fence around the hives. just make sure they know that they need to keep it mowed up then.
here they give us up a gallon of honey a year.
dont even think twice about it, do it

if they don't have knowledge about bees, they shouldn't bee [pun] around them. or post signs stating "not responsible for stinging",lol////if they get stung, them that sorry, it was a act of mother nature!

Those guys are going to get stung, its just part of beekeeping. I expect to get up to 20 stings each time I work my bees, but most time I dont get any. We put bees over on the neighbors and keep the area mowed up. As payment, we always share the honey with her. She always coments on how much better her orchard produces now that the bees are there.

Thanks to all for your input. Sounds like it might not be a bad idea!!

One more question; What is the importance of the area the bees are kept on being mowed?

A local beekeeper has bees in our pasture, no problems. Funny that the hives are almost 1/2 mile from the house and the bees regularly visit the wife's hummingbird feeder. His bees spend the winter in California. Wayne

I have about 12 or 15 hives here. The owner tends them often and they have never been a problem. He also gives me some honey once and a while.

I keep bees, have only 4 hives, worst sting day was 17 on neck, thats how I found hole in veil :)
Hey we know stings is part of it, but we enjoy it anyway, dont worry

Neighbor is in the bee business and he gets paid a pollination fee for each hive he has on the grounds at times and under other circumstances will just set them for to have a place to do it. He has the comercial building setup to remove the honey from the comb and sells both the honey and the wax. He got hit by colony caplace but before that he would ship out a truck of 55 gal barles a year of raw honey. Sells from home, a lot of local stores and flea markets and is the head of the local farmers market and he is now about 73-74 years old. Me I live just across the road from him and just a youngn at 67 and just had 5 bypasses.

Several people in my little town keep bees.... One old guy mid 70's tends his with tight shorts and a tanktop. Talks and sings as he works them. They land on him and he talks to them and brushes them off and keeps on robbing. Said he used smoke a couple times on new hives but they get to know him and everything is OK...I think he's an idiot but it's fascinating to watch him......
