JohnDeere Transmission interlock

Having issue with tractor not starting because of Trans interlock not making connection or something. If you wiggle shift levers or in and out of park it eventually will start.
Not sure where to start to diagnose. A little help would be greatly appreciated. It is a 76 JD 2640 with 8 forward 4 reverse and reverser tranny.

The neutral start switch is located under the sheet metal cover that the 2 gearshift levers come up through. Sometimes one can remove switch take off a shim or 2 reinstall and it will start correctly.
 
Sure there is, but SOONER or later someone will be killed when it starts in gear.
 
Sir, I know the risk, thank you very much. I was told there was a recall kit Jd fixed issue with.

If you cant say something nice, keep your mouth shut!
 
Remove a shim or put in a new sensor. A new sensor I think is around 50 bucks, and quicker to replace then to by pass if your going to by pass it right.
 
After saying "is there a way to bypass this feature?".
Should anybody be surprised,insulted and having a sore behind? If walking around with a sign on their back saying "kick me"?
 
Pick one up tonight, but instructiond say to replace the pin in tranny that contacts switch. So back to dealer to buy the pin. I would've thought it would be part of the kit for 41 dollars. Oh well, its not bad to work on and get at.

It was worth the bother of motivating you and and taking some abuse. Just to know the tractor is correctly repaired and that somebody may avoid injury someday.
 
Find someone else to motivate ,alright.

Tractors have been around for years without neutral switches, for safety!
 
well of course the dealer doesnt have the pin that is required to be replced when replacing switch. Kid looked at me like I was nuts, but I had the instructions with me with part number required or I might still be there!
