What to do with old chisel plow?

I have a Graham Hoeme model S chisel plow, hasn"t been used in years, rusty but complete. Any suggestions? What might it be worth? Or are these not even used any more? Definitely can"t pull it with my 9N! :~)

Location is south of Jackson, MI. Only big outfits around me, doubt they"d have any use for it. Sure don"t want to scrap it.

Opinions and suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks for your time,

Anthony

f you want to use it, you can do like I did & remove some of the chisels until you have power/traction to pull it.

Don't scrap it ! My F-30 might like to pull it. It is probably worth more as scrap right now, but hate to see it go there. I'm in NE IN, might be interested, email me.
my email is open.

I"ve got a 3 pt. 10 shank JD chisel sitting in the weeds, nobody wants it. Of course, when I finally do take it to the scrap yard, folks will come crawling out of the woodwork bemoaning it"s loss! They never cry until it"s gone. I hauled off corn planters and cultivators this spring and when I get around to it, the chisel is going to the same place.

How big is it? and is it a trailer type or 3pt? not familar with the name. I have all kinds of tractors now looking for toys for them. I'm in the brighton area. Email me a price.

hey im only around the coner from you if its complete im truely interested just tell me were to come looking
im just barely south of adrian

There is serious demand for small chisel plows (8-12 ft,trailer type with a cylinder lift)in the upper plains. We use them to cultivate the weeds in the tree rows/shelter belts.

They are also great for preping big gardens.

I like them far more than the disc or moldboard. Easier to set up, far funner to change sweeps/spikes than deal with gangs and new disc blades, not to mention the costs. Also no dead furrow.

Sorry, should have done this the first time.

It's a trailer type, JD 2-way cylinder on it, 8' or so wide, think it's a 9 shank.

I drug it through the garden for a few years with my Farmall M, but not at full depth. Had to sell the M when I needed cash for divorce proceedings.

Will try to get pics after work tomorrow.

Y'all have a good evening!

Around here in W Tx, back in the 50's, 60's and up into the 70's, every farm had at least one Hoeme (pronounced "Hamey") and usually 2 or 3 and they were used just about year round. Plowing cotton ground in the fall and wheat ground in the summer, along with plowing turnrows and layout ground. First time I ever got to drive a "big" tractor (Farmall 560LP) by myself when I was 10 yr old, it was pulling a "Hamey" plowing a playa lake bottom.
Sorry about such a long post, but this topic brought back many memories...lol

When I bought mine, the guy selling it to me said, "do you know the other name for these "Hameys"? I said no & he replied, "tractor killers". I had already paid him at this point or I might not have one. It has worked out fine behind the SMTA after removal of a few chisels.

Don't scrap it! There's still a demand.

When I was still farming, I finally began using a chisel plow (Graham) instead of a moldboard plow for wheat ground. Did just as good a job, was a whole lot faster, and didn't create back/dead furrows to contend with.

Rule of thumb is it takes 10 hp per shank. I pulled an eleven shank with an 856 Farmall and a 14 shank with a 1086.

A darn good thing for everyone you posted this- it almost got scrapped, now you have a line of suiters, what else you got laying in the weeds???
