Farm Tractor Alternator

I am in the process of put a alternator on my 1945 RTU
Minneapolis moline farm tractor. Does any one now what type of
car, truck alternator would work for my tractor. Also how many
amps would it have to be.
 
My favorite alternator is the Delco 10SI, from a late seventies Chevrolet pick-up truck. You shouldn"t need more than the low amp (41) model. Lots of information on this site about how to wire it up.
 

Are you using 12 Volts and Neg ground..??

Most all you are going to find are 12V Neg ground..

There are various sizes..choose one that will fit.

Usually, fellas will choose one with an Internal regulator..then, you only need one wire to it..

6V alternators are available but are uncommon and pricey..

Very simple. Ask for an alternator that fits a 1980 Chev pick up no power any thing. Cost at my local O'Reilly's is around $45 plus a $10 core
 
The nice thing about those Delco 1-wire alternators is you don't need any information about how to hook them up. You just run one wire from the single pin on the alternator to the battery connection on the starter solenoid or to the battery itself. It just doesn't get much simpler than that.

All it takes to build a 6 volt alternator out of a Delco 10SI is to replace the regulator. If you want it to be positive ground it gets a little more complicated.
 
Delco cs130 is smaller than the 10 si. Fits better in some tractors. I think it looks better too. I just put one in a WD. Cost $25 at a salvage yard.
