NH-855 Baler Questions

Dunno,

Might have found an "escape route" out of my 855-baler predicament.....just maybe.

Found an '89 (I think) model that the fella says works just great. Fairly recent chains and sprockets.

Anyone ever used one of these "Auto Tie" types? Purely mechanical not the electric type? Has only one set of hydraulics and they run the rear door.

I've always thought that this type of tie mechanism would be the cat's meow. Full bale buzzer sounds and ya just stop and let the baler automatically tie the bale…... My hydraulic tie is somewhat "cumbersome" because I have to tie manually with the hydraulic lever.

Also, the air gauge is sitting on zero; he says the air leaks off over winter. Noticed a couple of bent tubes, which to me, just screams low air pressure trouble.

Am I jumping right back in the same fire here? My 855 never leaked off in the 4 or 5 years that I've had it.

Gonna take an air tank over there, pump ‘er up and see if it holds?

Thanks,

Allan

that 852 i picked up in the spring has the auto tie...been too dry to even try and bale anything but i got the operator manual...theres a manual tie lever underneath the tie mechanism that you can tie a pull rope to...i'll see if i can find something specific if you got any more questions.

Hey Allan -

Never ran an 855 with the AutoWrap but have a 644 with AutoWrap that I have run for many years and assuming its a similar system. Works very well and I really like the automation without all of the fancy electronics to deal with.

On my baler you can set the bale diameter for any size, and once it reaches that point it trips the cycle, the buzzer sounds and like you said you just sit there until it finishes tieing.

On mine you can also adjust the twine spacing depending on how much twine you want on your bales (the 644 has about 4 different settings).

Only time I don't love the system is if you have a ball of twine get snagged or tangled up...when that happens you either have to kill the pto fast and go back and get the twine straightened out, or let it finish tieing and then go fix the twine problem and trip the AutoWrap manually to retie the bale. But, that isn't a problem with the AutoWrap but more the twine itself, and only happens once in a blue moon anyway.

All in all I really like the AutoWrap feature.

my 855 is electric auto tie works great can tie manually from the control box or auto. allen were are you getting your air bags i paid 250 for one 8 years ago 500 last year at new holland dealer

Thanks,

Appreciate that info! Never thought of that.

I'm really concerned about that air gauge lying on "0" tho. Sure think there is something amiss there.

He says he'll throw in one new air bag. So, maybe if it is leaking down, the total repair to fix his baler would only be $300 (for another new bag) plus buying his baler. Lots cheaper than $2600 to fix mine!

I hear ya,

I'm forever breaking the pickup sheer bolt 'cause I try to stuff too darned much hay in 'er at the last minute before tying.

With that auto-tie, you don't have a choice. It's gonna start tying at the proper size, like it or not. :>)

Thanks,

Allan

Raney's Truck Center.

Ya gotta be careful on the serial number break tho, as the older balers take a different air bag than the later ones.

For my baler, which is a later model, they want $295 a pop.

Not sure on the older auto wrap system but I know a guy that had a NH640 with auto-tie. It was fine until one time it wouldn't stop wraping the net wrap. Pain in the butt cause you can't really work without it being fixed and chances are it was an electrical problem. Never heard more on that. I just happened to be talking to him when it had just started acting up.

I have the autowrap on the 650 round baler. Works like a champ. You can change the amount of twine by putting the drive V belt on a different pulley. You can also set your bale size to a size you want, and there is a manual trip arm to override. There is a little paw clutch inside the one pulley that can gum up and cause trouble. All that takes is some time to clean it up...

not really apples to apples.....but......we have a new holland BR740A.....new in '06. It has bale command plus, we use netwrap, but it does have the twine option.....never used it though. The tying system on it is automatic, done with electric all I do is dump the bale.......it is awesome.....we had a Case IH before this baler that you had tie with hydraulics......PITA!!!!

I've never used a roller with auto tie before. Our 855 with the hydru. arm works just fine. I don't have a problem with it. Since our hay sets outside I like to put twine on a bale a bit closer together and I can with the hydru. arm as you also can with the electric twine arm.

Just get a spray bottle and fill it up with water and a LOT of dish soap. Spray the air lines when it's charged and you'll probably find the leak there. Mine likes to leak on the filler nipple. Whenever I pump it up I have the spray bottle in hand to see if it's leaking when I'm done. If it is, I pull the air release valve at the same time I put some air in, Then the nipple's valve seats properly again and doesn't leak.

Thanks,

I was thinkin' that the other day. Lots of lines involved with the air system and it could be just a 'fill' hose somewhere along the route. :>)
