I have extra hay this year and was talking to a guy about 2 mile away and he wants to buy some. Don't know what to charge him. Want to be fair. Bales weight 1000 lbs. He will come and get them. Just need to get back to him with a price.
Thanks P.S. Good brome hay

I feel at least $40 per bail is a generous price, $50 is about right if the bales weigh at least 1,000 pounds.

to bad your not up here in alaska, a bale of straw, just straw mind ya is 18 dallors, as a kid i use to help load a pickup for 20 dallors.

Good hay is bringing good money. I am in North-East Iowa. Good grass round bales are $95-125 per ton. Alfalfa round bales $155-175 per ton. So just weight a few and go from there.

Hay must be high, because every wannabe farmer has come out of the woodwork and is knocking down every square foot of anything that could be considered hay around here. Fields that haven't been touched in a decade have been rolled up into round bales.

That's the problem. Even with high hay prices you can't cover the fuel price of shipping it to places that need it.
