How long before it starts to workits a 10-20-30 blend put on hay.I need to take a soil sample but want to make sure what I just spread is in the ground.

Most dry chemical fertilizer is realeased over the growing season. Kinda like yer time release meds.

have you taken a soil sample before applying fertilizer, to see what is required? kinda seems like a low nitrogen level in that blend.

P & K take their time when surface applied. Perhaps half of those will be doing their work next year. Will take a month or more for them to show up on the plant.

N will make some green growth; most types need a rain to work in soon after application or some of it will escape to the air. 10 is a pretty low rate (when you say 10-20-30 was that at 100 lbs per acre then?), helps some, should see effcts in a couple weeks, probably be soning something in a week. Different formulations might need to go through changes in the soil to become an available type of N, could take more or less time.

yes took a soil sample .The soil needed 900 # to the acre to bring it back upto par no lime needed.so we put on 300# last fall 300# on in may now 300# july 13th. To spread the cost out .I want to take another sample may be I will wait till middle of nov to see where we are for next spring. All I want to plant is a alfalfa with mostly grasses.
