o/t metal buildings

Is their any material that can be placed on the sides of a metal building to keep it from looking like a typical metal building? Metal was desired to help keep the cost down instead of stucco or brick. Thanks Amo.

Wouldn't putting another material over the steel cost $$$, and therefore defeat the purpose of choosing the steel building because it was cheaper?

agree, spending$$$ to cover up metal, would cost the same in the end as having different type of building built.....if it looks that ugly, have some one paint a Murial on the metal, like a tractor scenery, or something

Simple, Just fabricate a huge propeller on the end and a periscope on the top. Paint the whole shebang yellow and voila! the Beatles live again!

Are You planning on removing the existing metal siding, or adding something to it? Since I dont know exactly what Your intentions are. "Menards" offers several different options Such as 1) Dual colors 2) Brick & block wainscoat 3) Even vinyl siding.

Also is this a steel frame, or wood frame building?

I'[m probably missing the point, BUT... Mine is Steel also, and I never thought much about that, It;s a SHOP, not a House, sooo I'm good with the metal look...Larry

Almost any material you can think of has been used for metal building entrances. I've seen rock and wood. Never saw it on all sides, defeats the purpose of cheap, maintenance free.

Ummm......So why didnt you build a stick frame type and have vinyl siding.?
I see your point but.....there is a difference between a pole barn and a stick built garage.

Thanks for all of your answers, the building was to be a recreation hall for a church to be built in a historic district in a small town. Thanks for all of the answers.

i've seen a few new churches locally that were standard metal buildings except the front...somne had brick or stone and one had Hardi Board panels.

What are you calling a "metal" building? An all-steel building or a post-frame building? Post frame you just use plywood siding instead of steel. If it's an all-steel building with a steel structure, you can put of facade of about anything over the structure. It won't be cheap, though. But then all-steel buildings are anything but cheap.

I think adding brick, stone or some other type of siding to match the small town atmosphere with a colored panel would give you an economical building that is also esthetically pleasant to look at.

If it's hard to picture I attached a link to pic of a community center like the one I was talking about. mbmisteelbuildings.com/testimonials/steel-community-center-in-texas

It's definitely worth it over using another building material bc steel will last longer and be easier to construct. With my EIT and BS in civil engineering and construction management and a MBA in international business I believe I have the know how of construction materials, scheduling and estimating to say that for this instance metal is definitely your best choice. Of course you don't want your rec hall to be an eyesore but you also have to consider cost & upkeep. You can buy a metal building today with a 40yr warranty, that is hurricane proof, and energy efficient.

In the construction industry green is undoubtedly the leading trend. I'd even recommend looking into having solar stripping preinstalled on the roof. A rec-hall shouldn't use to much energy so the solar-energy system could supplement all if not more of its energy and easily pay for itself over and over again throughout the years.
