Quiet day today and more quality entertainment on the armed forces television network, so I have some time and discovered a new (to me) toy on the computer. I'll try to give you folks a little perspective of some of the things I say that sometimes sound like BS...... Especially when I say neighbor and it sounds like I have so many....

this pic is a piece of our town and our place... (outlined in red)

this is the area around town with 2000 acres marked off. These fields are seperate and farmed by a a few different farmers not always having their fields joining each other. There is county (lack of better description) owned roads (ways) which sees that non are landlocked.

This is the town of 500 or so that covers 145 acres

Just thought I'd share..

It appears you are not growing houses in any of your cornfields like we do.( assume those areas are cornfields ) Don't see a single house outside of your town limits. Aren't your developers starving?

fields are anything from rape to sunflowers, to wildflowers...... Not allowed to build anything outside the town limits without approval which you just usually don't get... We went thru heck just for 2 leanto type shelters that are 10x30 and 10x20............
If there is a need for more housing, the town has to be extended....

A ot of the places you see have 2-6 families under one roof...

Dave,

I am glad you have been working on your people skills 500 people is not lot work with. Neat pictures.

Some countries like Germany that don't have a lot of land really control where you build because of the need for that land for farming. Germany still imports a lot of food because they don't have the land to feed the people.

In the US we import food because the the big agra and food companies can turn a better profit.....go figure!

thats a lot of neighbors, your wife can not make enough of her apple butter to give to the neighbors Is she going to make it again this season? It sounded real good when you were descibing it last season,

You think my people skills suck.......... she's german......... It's a big deal if they know the name of the folks 2 houses over..... at least in this area.. She just shakes her head when everyone waves at me when we drive by.
She used to ask "who's that?" but don't anymore cause never remember the name and just tell her they own this or that pice of property and live wherever....... She'll speek to folks and smile but won't go to the little beerfests in town and mix in....... . Yes, she'll make applebutter and applesauce this fall.............

Nice. did you have trouble with google earth being blurry, or out of focus lately? I shut down my whole labtop this morning, started from new, and now google earth is fine. I guess all of Europe is laid out like that, 1000's of years ago for safety from barbarians, now to preserve farmland. People must curse you and your tractor going down main street with a manure spreader. oh well, too bad for them eh? Any other farmers live in the village? I'll tell you one thing, I love your brick barn and cobblestone barnyard, wish I could have something like that someday. Thanks for showing these.

most everything you see in the one with our place circled is farms. Not many animals left as the folks are old and the next generation didn't want to fool with them. There is enough to smell things up a little but folks don't say much.

That's neat and thanks for sharing.
now if you Google in a street view it may let you drive past your house if you click and drop the little yellow man on the left.

maybe you can check on your homestead here in the states. they add more every year.

Dave: I've been enjoying your pictures of your country and the commentary!
Way back in the Spring of 1944, my dear old
Uncle Sam gave me a one week tour of your Country--free of charge. Our cruise ship made the Port of Liverpool. From there, we boarded a nice train, and went across the land, to an area near Trowbridge. evidently. the tourist hotels were full, as we lived in tents for the week of our stay.
I enjoyed the trip, but dear old Uncle must have gotten mixed up, because he sent us east instead of west, and the locals there didn't want us to come ashore! Amid much shooting and shouting, we finally got ashore, and i finished the trip in Metz, France, on a litter, in a field hospital. from there i went back to England, to a hospital for treatment of my wounds.
Many years later, somebody asked me if i ever went back, and i told them no, I don't fly, and had my fill of ocean trips, on the way over, and the way back! I tell them--I only lost one thing over there (My left foot) And, I'm not going back to look for it! The one they gave me to replace the one i lost, works well!
Thanks for sending the letters and pictures of your area! I didn't have much time to explore!

Dave,
Wie geht es Ihnen? I have enjoyed your posts in the past. I looked at the pictures and coundn't find a few things I thought I would see. Where is the Convo, Peden Stadium, Court and Union, Strouds Run, and the indian mound in the Plains? I guess I overlooked them in your photos.

here was a story some thirty-five years ago probably, that some people in Germany were denied again and again a permit to build the house that they wanted so finally they bought a piece of land that had a large barn on it. Then they had their house built inside the barn, then had the barn torn down.

I miss that stuff sometimes and then someone from school starts yacking on facebook and I realize there is no going back............ The folks I liked and respected are pretty much died off and replaced by 3W generation (Welfare, Walmart, and Whining)............ Folks here just can't picture growing up in the boonies and doing the things like we did...

could very well be........... you see how close our places are together... in recent years, any new construction has to be 10ft from the line, a lot of sheds get built under old ones. Guy up the street built a nice garage and motorcycle shop in his barn without anyone really realizing it...... Another little perspective tidbit, the neighbor's little utility shed and mine share the same chimney and we are 50/50 responsible for the ridgecap on the roof....

(quoted from post at 18:00:19 07/31/11) He seems to be well, clausterphobia hasn"t overtaken him yet.!

Our horses are scattered on little pastures around town and we spend most of our time there.....
