Hey,
Didn't want to hijack the post earlier (cause I got people skills)....
Anyway, about what does it cost to set a tractor up with power steering? Just curious at a ballpark. Cost here for most kits is about $1000.

You are probably close on the cost.

It depends on the type of steering your tractor has, the easiest
method is probably the inline torque multiplier. There are used
charlynn and behlen units out there. Eaton bought charlynn and I
think they are still available new.

I put power steering on my 202 MF for around $600-700. I did find a used char-lynn steering valve and some hoses used on E-Bay for around $135. If I would have gone with all new parts $1000 would sound about right.

Depends on the tractor. If its an old row-crop type, with an exposed steering shaft, you can splice in a Char Lynn torque generator ($485 at Surplus Center, or wherever fine torque generators are sold), add a bracket to hold it, get almost any kind of power steering pump at a junk yard, make a bracket for that, and put it together. Dandy little shop project.

The smaller utility tractors usually have the steering shaft in a tube, going down to a steering box just in front of the dash, with steering arms going to the front end on each side (think 8N). Usually not enough room to put in a Char Lyyn. Jackson (jacksonpowersteering.com) has kits for those, starting at about $1100, I think.

Third option is to find a unit on a tractor in a wrecking yard. Good luck with that.

Not a low-budget deal, no matter how you slice it.
