We have heard about putting salt on asparagus, should we mow it off first? It is quite tall but it is being choked by grass. We have never harvested any of our own, but would like to start next year. Thanks!

You can salt it all summer...just try not to put enough on that it draws Der..they will ruin a patch..
You can use enough salt to certainly slow-down grass growth..!!
I would not cut this year's growth until Spring, myself..
You can probably see a lot of red seed hanging on it now..
This year was a real good year for it..!!

I usually mow mine down in the fall after it's totally dead, most of the time there's a little snow on the ground when I do. I have heard of people using round up on the grass before the aparagus emerges in the spring, but have not tried it myself.

I recomend a good Hollandaise sauce, but my wife prefers ranch dressing. I think it's because she tends to get curdles when she makes hollandaise sauce. Either way, I never thought I would have to specify this, but harvest the asparagus before you apply the sauce. If you want to use the ranch dressing, cooking is optional.

Here in Mi we use roundup before the asparagus come up but its cooler weather then and it takes roundup a long time to work, but it does work.We found out that you shouldnt pick it all summer,6 weeks is what we pick.
