new to me picker

this just got delivered to the farm today.
Neighbor sent the picture while I'm at work. Now I can't wait to finish up and get home to check it out. Pickin times a long way away but I'm already excited. Just wanted to share as my co-workers just look at me weird when I tell them why I'm grinning so much.

(this is the first time I've ever grown corn, that's it in the top picture on sunny day a few weeks ago, should hopefully cut down on feed costs this winter for the sheep and cattle.

Also, does anyone know what model picker it is...beyond a one row New Idea. I'd like to get a manual for it.)

Thanks,
Jameson

Just be darned careful when working on / and around it !! Not only shut the pto off be sure to shut the tractor off too !! There have been many many people caught up in those.

right! My cousin got his arm badly chewed up by one, reaching down in to clear while pto engaged.

I like the first picture, beautiful view. You will have fun with the picker this fall, be sure to post some pictures of it in action. How many acres of corn did you plant? Like the other post said, be extra careful around that picker. Always shut pto off and be extra alert. I've heard of guys using broom sticks instead of reaching their hands in to unplug them... they all have their hands so sounds like good advise to me.

323. And the only one I think I've ever seen without the sheetmetal kinked up above the inside snout. They always get caught on the tractor tire from making too sharp of a right turn.

One sold near me last week that looked like new here in ohio for 2600.It was a 323.

I was told my great uncle (grandpa's brother) lost his left arm to a picker way back when. I've always been curious to hear the story but never asked.

Nice find.

As others have said, shut it down before getting into it. My grandpa lost all his fingers in one.

What kind of corn did you plant and what did you use to plant it?

Envious... I just run animals but have 3.5 acres of do nothing field across the creek that I just stopped leasing to a big farmer. Thinking about doing some fun stuff... At over 100 bushels an acre, that is a lot of feed.

Forgot to look at the seed bag this weekend but I think I got the seed from Blue River Organics... 90-100 day corn, planted in June (it was a late planting but it seems to be doing very well, we were lucky with a wet summer), cultivated it twice, no spraying, and I actually didn't spread any manure on that ground this year as I just didn't get around to it but the ears seem to be developing well. Ph is neutral though and the NPK were only slightly below desirable to begin with.

Planted about an acre and half, just enough to keep me busy. Used an old IH two row pull behind planter on 30 inch rows. Looking forward to putting the picker and our old corn crib back to use. I will for sure be careful. Viglilance and respect is a never ending requirement when working with equipment, especially the older stuff. I sure do like to see it run though.
