Now I understand about Ohio State and Ohio Farmland

Just took freshman daughter to Ohio State this past weekend. Got the chance to drive by some really nice farmland. I would have to say that "going to college" is an eye opening way to further one's education. What a HUGE difference there is between Ohio farmland and our small North Carolina Mountain farms. So ladies and gentlemen of Ohio, thank you for being extremely gracious to us and I hope Ohio State vs NC State doesn't happen anytime soon. It's GO BUCKS for now, and Mom will be wearing her "Ohio State Mom" shirt.

CHEERS TO YOU H.M. An Indiana man myself; but agree with You on the Ohio Farms. I havent been much farther than the Smoky Mtn's Your direction. Its tough for me to get much farther than a 12 hour drive. I feel like I have almost waisted 2 days in traveling. Beyond that its the airplane that rules my day! Not a sports fan; but knowing what little I know... Once Your wife unvails that shirt to the Carolina public; You might have to move to Ohio!!! Its good that You like it!

Don't know how you got to Columbus. There are some nice farms in the Columbus area but if you get to the northern part of the state where the real flat farm land is you will also find 8 different vegtables that are grown just in our county.

Hi H.M.

Glad you like the Ohio farmland.

To really get a handle on the Ohio agriculture scene, you really need to attend the Ohio State Farm Science Review at the Molly Carren Center near London, Ohio. This will take place next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. About 1200 acres of displays and field operations.

Most all of western, Ohio is flat to rolling farm land and lends to diverse, large farm operations.

Congrats on your daughter going to Ohio State. My daughter is a 2009 grad of the Ag college. Some really good folks in Ag on the main campus. It"s a GREAT school, she will enjoy it!!

Congrats to your daughter on her school choice!! What's her major??

Also good to see ATI mentioned a few times..... I'm an '85 grad of ATI, I hardly recognized the place the last time I was there and that was almost ten years ago.

Go Bucks!!

I just gotta say it: GO BLUE!

Me, U of M '74
Wife, U of M '74
Daughter 1, U of M '04,
Daughter 2, U of M '10, U of M Law School, '13
Daughter 3, U of M 12

I've sent a lot of money to Ann Arbor over the years (still do)

Seriously, congrats on your daughter going to college. And if you don't understand the significance of OSU vs U of M, your daughter (and you) soon will.

LOL ~ I was going to tell him the only thing left to do was learn to start hating the state to the north, but didn't want to start another [u:569c9d8f7e]Toledo War[/u:569c9d8f7e] with you guys.

We are actually closer to Ann Arbor than Columbus, but I stick with the home team. I think the rivalry is bigger in this area than anywhere else. My wife is from northern lower Michigan and once you get about an hour north of Lansing, it starts to die down again.

I always make it a point to wear my Scarlet and Gray whenever I can when I'm north of the border....

Just to comment and clarify: 1) Major -Business 2) Daughter made decision, wanted a big school experience with strong academics 3) SAT Perfect score on math, Ohio and others were interested in her. 4&5&6) As for Mom, born/raised Staten Island, NY. Played around Comodore Vanderbilt's tomb as a child. Absolutely fearless, likes the Ohio people, not willing to move from mountains of NC, says Northern and Mid-West winters too cold. Our winters cold also, but only have 2-3 cold days at a time, then warms up.

Thank you all for your kind replies.

Think the rivalry really heated up in the Woody/Bo days, when I was there.

Bo told me a story when I asked him once how recognized he was after he retired and bought a place in Florida:

He was biking around his new area and saw a barbershop and decided to get a haircut. He went in and the guy was cutting his hair and asked him if he wanted him to shave his neck. Sure, he said. They got to talking and Bo mentioned he was from Michigan. The barber said, "Oh, I know who you are." Bo was pretty pleased, feeling good about himself, kinda proud. Then the barber said "I was Woody Hayes barber". Bo said "Here was Woody's barber with a razor on my neck. I didn't move a muscle".

Better be careful and not ask what she traded for the new tats she has when she gets back home.

Your only mad cause you keep paying to watch them lose "The Game" every year. 8)

where on the Eastern shore? I grew up in Laurel, Delaware. Moved to Indiana in 1994.

Went to school in Ohio too, Youngstown State. Ohio has a very good set of state schools for engineering. Was a good $ deal too. Out of state was less than U of D in state.

  No, I'm not mad. I learned long ago that the sun WILL rise the next morning after a loss.

Plus, 1) I can't afford tickets for myself (but have paid for my daughters to attend the games)
2) These days, I would rather be on my tractor on Saturday afternoons than in front of a TV watching a football game.

One has to remember that in spite of the bitter rivalry, Bo and Woody were great friends after they retired.

I'm a 1987 graduate in Animal Science/Business. Ag Econ professor Alan Lines at Ohio State told me I would never make it on the farm, but I'm still farming 24 years later!

We're about 20 minutes south of Elktom MD. Town called Earleville. I think just about anywhere is cheaper than U of D (lol) Was in Laurel last week.

Glad you took it in the spirt it was meant. The rivelry is bitter. I've moved South since, and moved right in the middle of another rivalry. Clemson vs USC. Momma and the boys are for USC, so I naturly have to pull for the other team, just to keep things fair.

I do enjoy riding on a good tractor, as well. This Saturday, I'll be participating in a new hobby, doing what else, but riding a tractor. First time participating in a pull. I don't expect much, total stock tractor, just to learn the ropes before stick a bunch of cash into it.

Freshman Daughter. I suppose that is a hangover from the days when the Women were supposed to be kept barefoot, pregnant, and illiterate.
Political correctness hasn't caught up there, yet.

He finally retired in 2004. I think he still teaches the occasional class though. I would not wish him on my worst enemy. Tom Stout and Carl Zulauf were my favorite professors.
