Alternator belt

I am upgrading the alternator on the 44 with an internal regulator. It had the Delco alternator on it with the original 44 pulley from the generator. My H has the hitachi alternator on it, and I would like to standardize if possible.

Will the pulleys interchange between the Hitachi and Delco?

The Hitachi will be metric and the delco SAE so the two may well not fit and if they do one may have a odd wobble to it but the only way to be 100% sure is try

I always wonder why people like the internally regulated alternator so much. When they go bad it is ten times harder to change the regulator and costs twice or three times as much as the external regulator, but each to their own.

On a lot of old tractor they used a 5/8 inch belt instead of the 1/2 inch belt that the Delco alternator will have been set up for. On a lot of the generators you can pull the pulley off of them and use it in the alternator and that helps keep them tucked in close to the engine so the hood is not a problem

The common run of the mill Delco 10si is cheap as in $45 or so and if you buy from the right place they can even have a life time warranty on them so if they do go bad it is a cheap fix. Plus you have a lot less wires to go bad or get eaten by mice etc

A regulator for a 10SI is less that half of the cost of one for a 10DN. Also since the internal 10SI regulator is solid state electronics versus the mechanical regulator used with the 10DN they usually last much longer.

I buy the Delco internal self exciting regulators from a electrical supply house. US made and they are $13.00 when I buy 10 at a time. So I want to see any external regulator that is this cheap.

I think you'll find a 44 Massey belt is wider than 5/8".. I've never measured it, but with a quick look, it looks more like 1"
