OT Changing flapper door in pickup AC system

Because I use the pickup to pull my tractors to shows, thought it would be OK to ask this question.

One ear of the flapper broke off and fell, blocking air coming into the cab. Got charged $500 to replace the part. Is that thing that hard to replace?

Thank you to any of you auto/trk repair people.

depending on the truck ,yes ,, some as in this car are inside the heater housing ,,which needs to be removed .

The actuator itself was probably not over 50 bucks. It's been eight years since I worked at a dealership, so at today's prices, probably not too bad. Y'see they get you spoiled to all these comfort things, and then they sock it to you when something breaks because they know you don't want to do without it.
My truck has a three-sixty five air conditioner on it. (Roll down two windows, + the sliding rear glass = three, and run sixty five mph down the interstate. LOL. Only problem is, it doesn't work too good at a stop light when it's 95 in the shade!

I had a flapper in the heat/AC of my '84 F-250 break several years ago. Dug into it and found it was a cheap piece of plastic that had a factory crimp in it for the hinge and after 200,000+ miles and many years it just gave out. I cut a small piece of milk jug and screwd it to both sides for a makeshift hinge and put it all back together. It works well but the new "hinge" is jst a little stiff for the vacuum that actuates it so sometimes I have let off the gas pedal abruptly to build enough vacuum to get it to seal off completely. That pickup has a stick shift so that helps. It was in the flap that diverts air to the top of the dash for defrost or aims for AC vents and diverts to floor for heat so it was pretty important. Still works good but I seldom drive that pickup anymore.

06 pontiac torrent---very common problem--cost 22 for the part. 1200 or more to remove dash, drain refrigerant, remove entire assembly to get to the actuator--500 seems fair considering.

For blend door repair try heatertreater.com. I just replaced the blend doors on my 2000 Jeep Limited. Common problem with the plastic hinge.

Going price to fix the blend doors on the jeep was $900.00 to $1100.00.
The heatertreater was $125.00 and simple to install.
