Help me with hydraulic connectors please

I as going to pull this disc around today and the hydraulics wouldn"t connect. I took the standard males off and screwed on JD style according to the package (pioneer brand from farm store). No dice they won"t snap in. Any suggestions for me? 80 mile trip for nothing, arrgh.

There are the old JD style (tapered) and a newew JD style. The 4010 would need the old style, unless someone changed the connectors on the tractor.
 
The little lever under the female coupler on the tractor should be pointing to the rear of the tractor. Wrap your finger around the back of that lever, and pull it straight out towards you. The whole pin should move towards you, letting the little balls slip back in to the grove of the female coupling allowing you to shove the male coupling in. Push back on the lever to lock the male hose in, then turn the lever to the left to open the oil flow. MAY have to tap that lever forward with something to get it to move if it hasn"t been used in a while.

Maybe someone else can describe the process in a more understandable way?
 
Dave, I wonder if you might be describing a newer Deere. The manual makes it seem like you just push them in an yank them out. There are two levers, one for each remote, that open or close the oil flow, buy I do not think there is a lever under the remotes. COuld be wrong, this is grandpa"s tractor and new to me. Last two owners are gone, and other living operators are 40 years from seat time.
 
Older JD. You have to move that whole lever assembly toward the rear of the tractor to get the little balls to fall back into their sockets. You may have to tap it towards the back to get it to move if it hasn't been moved in a while.

Wolfman is right except the new JD coupler is ISO,which all new makes are(Pioneer).Your male plugs should be tappered for a 4020.Look at your coupler blocks on the tractor and you will see a little T rod under each plug,turn them straight back,look in the front of the coupler and you should see a barrel sticking out of the housing.IT HAS TOBE PUSHED BACK IN FLUSH(might need to be knocked back in)whem it is your coupler will slid in and push the barrel back out(Forward)then turn the T handle 90 degrees locking your coupler in.Now do the the other one the same way and you are done.Make sure there is no pressure on your hoses or on the tractor end(PUT in float).They are not the best coupler to get used too.

The newer John Deere's use an ISO (Pioneer Like) style. You will need the older John Deere stye.

There should be a small round lever under each remote outlet. They need to be straight back when you are plugging them in, then rotate them perpendicular to latch the connector in.
 
To connect
You must first make sure the coupler body(s) on the tractor is slid back. This "releases" the retaining balls and allows the tip to fully seat when pushed in. Once pushed fully in, (coupler body slides forward) the retaining balls capture the tip to prevent it from pulling apart and disconnecting. Now the lever needs to be rotated as this opens the check balls, one in the tip and one in the coupler body, and allows oil flow.
 
The lever arrangement on the Deere tractors is supposed to allow you to hook up the hoses even if there is pressure in them but it is easier if there isn't. Shut off the tractor and move the control levers back and forth to make sure there is no pressure at the coupler and tap the hose ends on the drawbar to relieve any pressure in them. If the weight of you disc is on the cylinder you will have pressure in the hoses untill it is on the ground unless there is a locking pin to hold it up.
 
4010 would have the t rod on the sides of the couplers and are more of an L shape. Same function just different location.
 
Steal a couple nipples off something else you know works... get you going. Then change the barrells on the tractor to ISO and be done of it.

You need the old style JD male end for starters. Then you need to make sure the levers on each side of the female coupler need to be pointing straight back. Then they need to be all of the way back in there slot. You can just grab them with a pair of pliers and pull them back. Then push the male tip into the female tractor coupler. Then turn the levers on each siide of the coupler straight down this locks the coupler together and opens the two check balls in the tips. I have attached a link showing the correct Hose ends you need.

JD thanks so much. Looks like I have the right connectors and didn"t have the levers back far enough. The two levers that turn on the oil and compress the balls in the hose ends must be what you are talking about. When they are back in the correct position, does the ring of ball bearing depress letting it slide on in?

The barrel that the balls are held in must move back to allow the male tip that JDSeller posted from TSC to plug in. Then IIRC the barrel with coupler tip inserted is slide back forward & the lever on the side must be flipped down to depress the 2 large balls in the tip & coupler to allow oil to flow.

IIRC the float position on 4010 is accomplished by moving control rod to a different hole on scv control valve under hood next to firewall.
 
You are right Cliff,we haven't had a 10 or 20 since 1976 and I was thinking of the 30s and horizonal vs vertical plus the ISO converson was the first thing I did because everything else was Pioneer compatable.
 
Please send me another one seems that the safe mial system at Y-T is not working as well as it should be and I have not gotten one from you yet, had that happen the other day also
