Whats a Wisconson Engine worth?

Hey yall!! Well, this morning I took the truck in to get an appointment set up with the rhino-lining people, and on my way home I stopped by this barn sale, just a few miles from the farm. And there I spotted this little old Wisconsin motor. The story with it is, that the current owner got it as part of a package deal, and its sat in his barn for a couple years. It turns over really well, everythings there, but he hasn't had it running.

Does anyone know what something like this might be worth? He's not asking a lot, and if there's a chance I could make a couple bucks off of it, Id buy it, then bring it home and sell it on ebay or to someone on this site or something. Its clearly been sitting for a while, but it looks to be in half-decent shape.

Just wondering. And here are a couple of pics:

And while I was there, I ended up picking up this nice little old Kennedy toolbox, and some things called "Smudge Pots". I dont need/want the pots, so they're going straight to Ebay, but the toolbox could be kinda cool all fixed up. Im debating cleaning it up and having it powdercoated, or flipping it... Idk...

Well thanks in advance guys, hope everyones enjoying their weekend!! :)

The Engine is probably worth 200 bucks to someone who needs one like it or scrap price if sold as is. They make good power, and have a pretty good reputation. If it has good compression, it is worth messing with if you buy it for 50$ not more. Making a garden tractor out of it would be a fun welding project. Probably in the 12 HP category. (guess)
Kennedy tool boxes are high end. Great find, fix that one and use it.
The flair box should be kept with the flairs.
Wire brush them and spray with stove paint.
Sell them as a Kit. Ebay is your friend on those. Nice to here from you!! Jim.

The Wisconsin V4 used to bring about $100 at auctions, that is the smaller 2 cyl isn't it? Someone who wants one in good running shape might pay $200, maybe.

What are the pots for, not familiar with them?

May want to keep the smudge pots.. IO have a couple I burn to help keep the mosquitoes away when having night time cook outs. you have all those complete with the "nuff caps" ... I'm missing one
great find with the box for them as well.

Engine running ??? Friend sold one last year for 100.00.
it was off one of those cable machines for cleaning sewer lines .

Lance, Those "Smuge" pots are what were used years
ago along construction sites, like what we see now
is those little yellow flashing lights(battery)
powered. I built a topsoil shredder one time using
a motor like yours ,And also a drum out of an old
thrashing machine and a hopper from an old concrete
plant, Worked great. Lance forward me your email
address please....Jim in N M

Hey Lanse, can you give some more info on the engine, (ie model number, and serial number at least)? They should be located on a tag that's usually toward the top left hand side of the engine as you stand looking at it. I believe the one your looking at is too small for what I need but if it's what I'm looking for I might be willing to buy if off of you if the price is right.

Lanse, as far as the 2-banger Wisconsin goes...if it was dirt cheap, I'd pick it up and try to get it running. THEN I'd look for an "original" series Cub Cadet, and see what it took to swap that Wisconsin onto where the old 1-lung 7hp Kohler used to sit. Heck, I'd probably paint it red and put FARMALL decals on it, and then see if the next owner called it a "factory prototype" or something.

As far as the "smudge pots," they were used in the OLD days, before the reflective triangles, and before the "Fusee" flares, by truckers when they broke down. Three of those "flares" were an ICC [forerunner to DOT] requirement...that's why they're in a metal box of 3 of them.

If you want to "flip" them, I'd see how well they would clean and paint. Someone restoring an old International or Mack road tractor might like to have that set. [On second thought, powdercoat might be smarter than paint...]

That doesnt seem like a much for a good running, old engine... Maybe if I ever build something that requires a good sized engine Id find an old wisconson and use that... But for what he'd have to have to sel it, I think Ill just pass, there wouldnt be hardly anything there for me to make, plus it would take a while to sell since Id have to do it all locally. Thanks for the info tho, Jim :)

I already am making a garden tractor as a welding project, the Mower of Awesomeness. Although I havent worked on it in forever, I have everything (donor tractor, engine, etc). Maybe I will tonight!! lol... Ive decided to keep the box. I got everything for $15, so the flares should cover that pretty well on ebay...

I tried to send you an email, but I got a failure message... My email is:

[email protected]

Its nice to know the background on those old things, thanks for enlightening me!!

Unfortunately no, I dont have any other information. Given the price on it, and what yall say they sell for, I think Ill just pass on the whole deal... I didn't think to get any tag info when I was there, although now I wish I had...

Besides, NC is a pretty long ways from Ohio...

Neighbor had one of those 2 cylinder Wisconsins on his Case baler. Great running engine, started easy, no trouble. Unlike its V-4 cousins.

I have a tool box exactly like yours. It was my Father's. He bought it in the 1940s or early 1950s.

motor in my area is scrap price unless you find that person which I don'thave that luck, far as tool boxes like that last ones i seen couldn't get bid on went with rest of pile to get bid,how many more you want, same with vises can't get bid on them, how many those you want. good luck but i wouldn't spend time or money painting them unless for yourself to make you feel good. that just me though okay. Good luck n the bedliner. i just use the do it yourself kind from Lowes, done three trailers, pickup flatbed and my ramps into shop and has been fine so far for 3plus years

Thats pretty cool, they must be good boxes cuz' they're still making them!! Just search for "Kennedy K20"

Depends on which model that Wisconsin is. TJD is the best one. If its not a TJD I wouldn't give more than $100 for a runner.
Those smudge pots are also known as Toledo Torches.

You can't hardly give em away around here.
I bought one with hand clutch for $35 in May
One with electric start for $25
I've got 11 of them here now
Will sell one with a Lincoln Welder for $50
Have 3 fixer uppers, should be able to make 2
good ones from the 3, for $100 for 3
