does anyone know what the relationship is between the key slot on the crankshaft and top dead center.

I've got lots of Wisconsin engines, but never
thought of that question. However...ALL wisconsin engines are marked on the flywheel.
Most have a "top dead center" mark on the tin
shrouding, that you line up with the flywheel
marks.
Get yourself an "Owners and parts" manual, and
theres photos and drawings in there. There are
about 100 such manuals for sale right now on
e-bay, under "wisconsin engine parts', or go to
the upper left of this forum, where it says
"Tractor Manuals', Wisconsin is listed under
miscellaenus! you'll find your model there.
