electricity service????

Hey folks,
Not gonna try this myself but just want to know if it's a possibility.... Service to house is 480 (maybe 400) volts (100 amp). Normal house current is 230V.
Old service was upgraded to a breaker box but used existing wire plan...

one breaker for lights and plugs on the 1st floor and one for the second. Second floor continues on to lights/plugs in the barn, workshop, and stalls.
Not a problem and was done/inspected legal.
Actually IS a problem sometimes like today. water blew into a cord in the barn and tripped the breaker knocking out power to upstairs, workshop, stalls, and barn.

Now, this is just regular housecurrent service. Also have 380 volts to the kitchen for the stove and barn for my grain roller (??) (same circuit).

What I'd like to do (have done) if possible is:
The 400 volt cable runs into my workshop and thru the wall into the kitchen stove. Would like to run that first into another breaker box and then be able to run to the stove, and my grain press, and supply the 230 volts to run lights/plugs (with seperate breakers for each highvoltage run and seperate breakers for lights and plugs on 230 volts).

Is what I'm asking understandable??? And possible?

This isnt Canada is it??????

If you have 480, TYPICAL 3 PHASE SERVICES ARE:

1) 480 Y 277 volt Three Phase 4 Wire. It has 480 3 phase and three legs of 277 single phase (any leg to neutral) used in industrial lighting. To get typical household 120/240 volt single phase three wire they use a dry transformer.

2) 480 volt 3 phase 3 wire Delta. Again a body can use a dry transformer to get household 120/240

You have more then one service to your house?????????? You have transformers to take it to 120/240???? Sure its 480??? Is it three phase???? You have any 277 volt????

Other possibilities are the 208 Y 120 volt 3 phase 4 wire, it has 208 3 phase,,,,,,,3 legs of 208 single phase,,,,,, and three legs of 120 volt BUT IT HAS NO 240 OR 480

I can probably help you if I figure out what you have

have to leave soon I will check back later

Domestic power is usually single phase with one live line. Being in the 220 to 240 range.
Usually referred to a 220/380 in Europe. 380V if it's three phase service line to line.
There was a grand experiment in some parts of Canada to go to just a 240/416 service in commercial buildings. The idea was just a money saving single service and run lights, type writers etc on 240. And operate HVAC etc on 416.
Never really did catch on. I've worked in buildings with it.

The wife and I lived in Germany for 2 years when
I was stationed at the Army Aviation Maintenance
Center, at Mannheim. Power, in government Appt.
was 220 volts. We purchased transformer box's to
run our U.S. appliances. We still have a huge
Grundid stereo, that has a switch on the back
for 120/220, and, when sold to an american, came
with an extra drive pully for the turntable as
the motor ran at a different speed on german 50
cycle A.C. versis U.S. 60 cycle.
