Well, I bought her 4 days ago. Mowed with Doris today. (yes her name is doris)

seemed to do good, time will tell. no blow by, tight pto, whines slightly in 2nd adn 3rd, but still rock solid.

I was worried about the lack of front grill. I made this one:

Then got her painted adn dried before mowing...

Not exactly stock, lighter gauge wire... but if you Cub guys come knocking at my door saying I did it wrong, I will agree, just was impatient. I could have gottent eh corect 18b gauge woven wire, but I didn't want to wait on shipping while the weather is still nice.

still, the frame is correct, not like the reproductions with welded seams. mine is correct.

It was dark by the time I mowed, so I got to test out the charging system for the first time. ammeter is crap, so, I relied on a time proven method to test it... I mowed in the dark for a long time. The lights never dimmed and the 6 v battery would still crank it over when I was done.

Lights are pretty:

They really make the new front grill shine!

WEll, that was my day.. Was nice, weather was nice, but today I have a few things to do to make it even better. I got someone offer me $1000 for the Cub. I didn't know whether to laugh or poop on their shoes even thought I had a nice one brewing.

I want to fix my cub so I would like to sell this one. (my cub was bought on this farm in 1955, it's a 53 model, but must have sat.) It was never off the farm until 1999, when I took it to work for a week. Aside from that, it has been here for almost 60 years. I can't replace it. might be headed to e b ay or Craigs awesome list. I don't know yet. it starts easy, runs good, no blow by, no smoke, no stupid stuff. just a good tractor..

but I have over $1500 into it. I need the money back to fix up the original cub. This was the biggest impule by in teh world... yoy

I also live in Pa. and do quite a bit of mowing with a sickle bar , with my 1948 Cub. Last year I called myself being a real opptismist buying a snow plow for my Cub. It is the best money I ever spent on tractors. It's unbelievable for its size.

If you get a Cub guy playing Originality Cop, he ain't a Cub guy.

Cub owners are the least critical about originality that I've known.

Well, I've got no taste, but I know what I like. I think your grill looks fine, and I wouldn't apologize to anyone about it.

Wife's uncle had a Cub, couldn't ever seem to keep it running. He was one of those guys who agonized over every little thing, and unable to solve much of anything. A mechanic probably could have fixed it in about 15 minutes, but he kept himself occupied for years, trying to get it to run right.

After he died, his kids had it sold within a few days. End of problem.

Had a Cub over 20 years. Does everything its supposed to except start in cold weather. It will start with electric heater, though. Just little bit of trouble to put snow plow on so I have another for the snow Farmall A that is. Dave

the grill looks great my original one doesnt look any better to me, [ mines a 49] i bought it for a mowing tractor to get away from the china junk riding mowers they make today and love it, im continuly amazed by what this little cub can actually do, it hasnt failed me yet, in winter the 6v is iffy to start, but i found the good old hand crank will fire it right up when its cold

I love these little tractors. They have the equipment to farm on a bigger level than the average person can use...

I just wish I had more Cub implements!

I would love to say I seeded 4 acres of oats with JUST a farmall Cub! LOL

Well, the restoration boys have a name for it, call it "sins of the farmer" when you modify something from its original stock configuration. Course, farmers had some other names for it, "resourcefulness", "expediency", "getting the job done", "doing what had to be done" and "making do with what you have" come to mind! :)
