Answered an Ad yesterday about a guy wanting a farm truck. Sent him and e-mail telling him what I have and what I wanted for it. So he calls me this morning 3 times first one before 8am which is to early for most any call to me. I call him back and he asks does it run when I plainly said it did when I answer him. Then asks me what I wanted for it which I also included when I answer him. So he say that is to much I have this much and the he says I buy trucks all the time. I told him up front what it was and what I wanted for so why even bother calling or is it people can not read any more??? Ya sort of steamed on this one.

You are dealing with every mind set out there and some of them are on the edge. You know "Lites are on, but nobody is home". A lot of people just hear what they want to hear. Just like on here. You have your geneous types, your total idiots, your young folk, your really bored people who don't have a life, etc. Chill out because it is hard on your heart. I ususally get 2 or 3 idiots like you described and then all of a sudden a sane one shows up. LOL

This summer I saw an ad on Craigslist for a 3000.
It was Sunday morning 7:15 AM.
I called the guy immediately - woke him up.
Told him I could be on my way in 5 minutes and be there in an hour. He said come on down.
Good thing I left when I did because he had a couple of other calls before I got there.
I figured if a guy wants to sell his tractor bad enough he will get his rear end out of bed to do it.

I know what ya mean. I never answer a wanted ad anymore. They either never respond back or want you to give the item to them. The last on I replied to we agreed to a price for the item and I was to deliver part way on a certain day. Called the night before to confirm directions, and he said he decided not to take it. Had my phone #, but never bothered to call me. Hence, will never answer another wanted ad.

Being woke up would not have been a big deal if he had bother to read that I wanted what I said but instead he could not read what I said and had to ask me when I already told him the price. So what steamed me was he did not read what I had told him when I answered his ad he had to wake me up and ask what we already told to him in the first place

Yep,my son had a Saturn car sitting out front here for sale a few weeks ago. Had his cell phone number on a piece of paper in the windshield. He was only asking $800 for it. He said somebody called him and without even saying hello the yo yo said "I'll give you $500".

What I want to know is how do you sleep past eight? Even if I am short on sleep from the night before and need to get 7 hours I still can't sleep past 5:45. You must be on some good drugs! LOL!

When I put an ad in the paper, the price listed
is what I want---Firm---no exceptions!
Nother make me madder than someone who wants t
"Dicker", or asks:"will you take less?"

ust not deal with many Chinese or Arabs then........or you would be mad all the time.......always want "you sell to me cheaper", "you price too high", ..........

took me a year to sell a disc. put a price on it didn't move off it, when scrap price reached a certain point it sold have no idea if it was melted down or being used but I got what I asked for it.

I also sleep late when I can. Retired and 68 and had heart surgery this summer so don't feel like doing much anymore. If was in good health and felt good enough to work would be different.

To each his own. I kind of like negotiating, so I never price anything "firm". But then again, that's part of what I do for a living, so it isn't very stressful. Gives me a chance to test out my "people skills", because in the end, that's a major part of the process. Anybody who makes it an adversary process is making a mistake.

If you won't negotiate, just be sure and put "firm" in your ad. IMHO, a buyer should respect that, and either "take it or leave it"; but seller shouldn't get mad if buyer makes one try at dickering anyhow- "Nope, its a firm price, just like the ad says." Lots of times, "firm" ads become not so firm, depending on how the reponses have been (or how the ongoing discussions with the Mrs. are going). LOL

I get the same thing, all the time. What gets me mad is the ones that want a lower price, BEFORE they have ever inspected what you have for sale. I might wiggle, a little on price, once a buyer shows up, with cash in hand, but dickering over the phone, with someone who knows nothing, is wasting my time.

I get these types all the time, asking if I'll take less even before they see it. I'm usually willing to move a little on the price of something, but only if they make the effort to show up and look at what is for sale. I always politely say "you come look at it and we can talk about the price." That usually gets rid of a few people.

Another thing, I will not answer text messages regarding something I have for sale. I'm a younger guy (26) and text quite a bit but if you can't call to ask about an item for sale, I'm not wasting my time with you. Gives me the impression you aren't too serious about buying if you won't make a phone call.

Rarely in bed past 6 am and probably passed out in the recliner at 9pm the night before. I know a lot of guys that advocate getting up early but they fail to mention they havent been up after 9 for years. I'm still up working at 2am while you've been sleeping for 5 hours already. It's a 24 hour world and not everybody goes to bed at 9pm and gets up at 5am. How would you like if I called on something you had for sale at 2am? I'm sure you wouldn't.

i love it when you put a lot of info, with price, and they still have to try to talk you down with-out seeing the item yet,,,i tell them i"m not spending 20 minutes on phone, it will only cost a couple of gals of gas to come by if really interested...that gets rid of lookie-loos and to get their

Old---here is an idea....

I saw an ad this summer that I thought was kinda cute, I believe it was posted on this site.....

"Item in good conditon. Price $500 Firm, $750 if you want to negotiate" :>)

Tim

Yes, it was stupid of that guy to call that early in the morning to ask what he had already been told. But, just wondering, all of you who are saying that asking prices aren't negotiable, when you go and buy an item do you immediately pay what the seller is asking? Think I need to sell some stuff to you guys lol. I assume that with anything I sell or buy, negotiating is part of the process.

R I N G! Hello, (it's 6 am)
That (Fill in the blank) you have sitting at your front gate with the $800.00 price tag sign on it? How much do you want for it?
$1,200.00!
But the sign sez $800.00?
Yes it does, but $800.00 is the price for normal people that can read. $1,200.00 is the price for stupid dumb @sses like you that can't read!

The problem with most folks is that they haven"t had the blessing of USMC BOOT CAMP [PARRIS ISLAND 1951]. SO they dont how to respond, better luck next time CC 1184343

I have a relative who will drive someone to the nuthouse to get something for at least 1/2 the cost. & if he cant get it will leave them hanging. I couldnt beleive about 4 years ago that someone sold him a JD 4020 for $5000 that looked almost new. Guy wanted $9900; didnt get any other lookers, & called him up & said make Him an offer!!! They haggled over the phone for around 1/2 an hour. I COULDNT DO THAT!

that's why we have an answering machine and do most buying and selling with ebay........ and deal only with email until the person calls to tell us they are 30 minutes away............ wife made the mistake of answering the phone about an hour and a half ago and will be on it another 1 1/2.................. What anyone can find to talk about that long is beyond me......................

Easy to sleep past 9AM when you stay up till midnight every night. Years ago I did the 1am wake up call and bed at 7pm so now that I am older I have just switch it out

I've had guys show up at midnight to look at a tractor. The guy was supposed to be here at 8pm.I showed it to them and they didn't buy it anyhow.
A trucker called, said he was coming through around 3am and wanted to look at my tractor.I told him to keep on driving.

I agree with you about bad buyers.

I also have a rant about sellers that list something, but don't post a price.

I have called on a couple things like that in the past. Made the mistake once of driving over 100 miles one way, cash in hand for what it should be worth. He told me it will be "worth my trip" and had to see it to appreciate it.

It was a total waste of my time when I could go to our local dealer and buy a heavier built blade for less money that had never been welded up.

If they won't give me a price then I know that it is too high and they know it too. DOUG

Years ago I worked a swing shift. 1 week you did the 9 to 5 then the next you did the 5 to 1 and then the next the 1 to 9 and boy if did not take long before you where not sure if you where coming or going and a phone call was not want you wanted any time

Now if it was Nov 12th the guy would have gotten the machine again but that would be because I was out in a deer stand seeing if a good one worked to close. Yep deer hunting is about the only time I get out of bed early

I enjoy negotiating too...and doing so has saved me many thousands of dollars over the years.

I think that part of negotiating is first sizing up the person you are negotiating with. Some people will not lower a price a bit, and it might make them mad if you ask. But most people who are motivated sellers will drop the price at least a little. It also helps to have some idea of how much something is worth before you look at it. If I find someone who will not negotiate, and I still think the given price is reasonable and I WANT it, I might just pay what they asked. But most things I buy at less than the original quote.

I have been told by people who sell new and used cars for a living that they would think someone was stupid for paying the first price they were given. They expect to haggle, and usually also enjoy the process. How bad do they want to sell that piece of merchandise? I try to pay the absolute least I can.

But that approach takes a motivated seller, who is willing to get a bit less for his item and yet make a sale. I generally don't try to buy items that are extremely popular and in very short supply. Somebody else might come and be willing to pay the whole amount--that is what "additional dealer profit" is all about on some window stickers. No way!

Haggling is a good game! It can also be very rewarding.
