Went to Montrose today(raining, remember),stopped in to the local'Murdocs'store.Got to looking at chainsaws(I need one),They sell Huskevarnas-got to looking at a "factory reconditioned"Homelite 14",$79.00.one year warranty, looks like a brand new one.It came home with me.we'll see...Steve

I've had some good luck with that factory reconditioned stuff. Hope you will to.

Congratulations, hope your success mirrors my experience. Didn't ever see a Homelite offered, but bought a similar priced 14 inch Poulan with a one year unconditional warranty. Ran the crap out of that saw for roughly two years and only replaced chains with one new drive sprocket. Could go "belly-up" tomorrow and I'd still be satisfied. Tractors are my prized possession, a chainsaw is just a necessary but expendable tool. If marooned in the backwoods far from civilization and depending on a chain saw to survive, mite reconsider.

Bought a factory reman. 16" echo 5 years ago, still works great, 4 winters worth of firewood plus quite a bit for resale and now I`m opening up hay ground with it, can`t complain at all. I did put a 20" bar on it so I don`t have to bend over so far.

If I`m in the wilderness cutting wood to survive (been there, done that) I`ll take my ax, anyhow :)

Todays Homelites are not the same as the old Homelites. They are made by someone who bought or assumed the name . There are virtually NO parts availible for them . They may be a good saw and hold up , the few I have had in the shop were pretty flimsy . Keep fingers crossed, for the price it may be worth it .

Last week I bought a factory reconditioned Husqvarna 455 on ebay. The price was $70 to $100 less than a new one, so I thought I would take a chance.
The saw looked used, with scratches in the case and the blade was worn. I am not sure who packed it up, but the blade was a 20 inch and the chain was an 18 inch. So, right now I haven't used it yet and am waiting for some sort of resolution from ebay. I learned my lesson, don't buy unless you can see the actual item you are buying. Most of the pictures on ebay are a factory photo that show a pristine item.

I was looking for couple of "el cheapo" saws to leave at a remote property. I almost bought Homelites but got scared off after reading about the horrible reliabilty reports. True or not, I do not know. The new Homelites are made by Techtronics Industries in China. Too bad.
