Ball hitch for loader bucket

I'm looking for ideas on how to temporarily mount a trailer hitch ball in my loader bucket, WITHOUT DRILLING A HOLE.

The loader worked great yesterday for pushing a couple of wide trailers into a narrow lean-to, but there was nothing keeping the tongue from sliding out of the bucket.

built one like a bale spear , with the ball extended out away from the bucket , apiece of square tube , angle iron chain and a binder and a hours time good to go

Bale spear idea is right on. If the bucket cutting edge is a little weak and the tractor is a little strong, a hole might weaken it enough to cause the cutting edge to crack and then eventually break. Then the only way to rejuvinate the bucket is to replace the cutting edge. Ask me how I know. The noise when the cutting edge breaks is one that sticks in your memory. Jim

main thing is,,you need to get ball out a ways so you can move around without bending hitch . I used channel iron , 3 ft, made lip to fit under bucket ,,extends into bucket about 20 inches ,and then drilled ONE 1/2 in hole,,,unless your carrying water in you bucket,,hole won't hurt a thing .

What I did:put a piece of 2 1/2 x 2 1/2"angle across the front(3' long)take a piece of heavy bar stock (as a 'drawbar)with 6"in front of your bucket.Secure it with a chain around the bucket.(Like forkliht forks)

I don"t understand the reluctance re drilling a hole- it"s the first thing I do with a loader or skidloader- along with welding 3 grab hooks on the top of the bucket. But, I added a bracket inside the skidloader bucket to accept a 4x4 steel tube for a boom- had a hook on the end, could just as easily had a hole for your purpose. Bracket was two 3/8 steel plates, welded to the rear bottom and back of the bucket. Hitch pin secured the 4x4 in the bracket.

I notched my cutting edge on a Case backhoe,(so the chain wouldn't slip sideways) when I back trailers with it. works good.

I know this isnt answering your question, but the used box blade I bought has a trailer ball mounted on it, and its VERY handy!

The trailer places around here use the ball hitch on a quickhitch.Just back up to the trailer, lift the 3pt and pull away.
