Starting at 22mph then up to 45 mph hearing a rolling, humming harmonic like a bearing or shaft or something coming from right front of vehicle.Frequency of harmonic increases as speed increases. Worse in cool weather. Not audible at highway speed. All powertrain fluids checked OK 2 weeks ago. Alum wheels/tires rotated 90 days ago. Do frt wheel bearings go out on these or do bearings have to be re-packed every so often. 165K miles. Noise getting worse since three months. Will a universal jt make a noise like that. No real difference in handling. Greater wear visible on outside of front tire. You guys have any experience with noise like that, what it could be.

Did noise change when tires were rotated ? If you weave left and right when driving , does the noise change pitch ? if so ,more than likely wheel bearing .

Not familiar with the Jeep, but when the wifes Ford Explorer Sportrac 4x4 did that, like the rest said,it was a wheel bearing. It's a sealed unit on that one. More of a bother to plug the ABS wire back in than it was to change the bearing.

It could be your front driveshaft cv joint centering ball wearing out if it sounds like a bunch of squalking birds underneath the jeep. Had the same problem on my 99. Search "angry sparrows".

I had a noise like you are describing on my 2002 jeep. Had to get all four wheels off ground and run in 4 wheel drive to find the noise. It was the front wheel bearing. You have to by the hub assembly as the bearing is not replaceable or greaseable

At 30 to 40 mph rock the steering wheel side to side, a hub bearing will get loader and quieter as you rock it back and forth. They are easy to change but you may need some specialty tools.
