We have our new HP computer, and it has spell checker in the office max tools, but when I type a message on the forum, there is no spell check on it. Is there a way to get it on the internet,so the words are correct? Or do I have to download another program to have spell check on this computer? It would certainly help out dramatically and grammatically.lol. Help would be apprreciated.
New does not necessarily mean better, the old dell had it, this one may, but I can't find it.
Thanks,
Victor & Lou

whadaya woriyd abuot spellink far????????????

KISS method would be do your post in a word document, spell/grammar/whatever check, then copy/paste it to the forum. Gives you the added benefit of not loosing a long post because of the whiney filter or a timeout/burp of the system.....

DAVIE BOY< IT"S awl rite 2 knot a pear ignorrate whan righting 2 pipole. SOM ting we kneed to make rite. lewie

I use Firefox and there is an option under tools/options/advanced to do that. I'm sure IE has something similar.

Hey Lou, I can understand the sentiment about wanting everything spelled correctly, etc, in order to be understood. In many cases though the only reason people feel the need to use it is so they can appear 'smarter' than they actually are. There in lies the problem with this situation. I say problem because just the fact someone can, or can not, spell every word in their post correctly has nothing at all to do with 'how smart' they are. Over the course of my life I've known people that were, for all intents and purposes illiterate, or nearly so anyway. Funny thing ablout those folks is that in the grand scheme of things thos folks typically had more common sense than most. Too some of them were also some of the smartest people I've ever known when it came to whatever field they had chosen to pursue in their life.

So, wile spppelll chick mae seam lik a grate thin, inn thee innd they're ain't no garantee ov anething jist beecase sumone usez it und spels everithing rite.........Personally I preffer to do a Google search, etc if I have any doubts as to the spelling or meaning of a word I'm not sure of the spelling or meaning of. This way I'm not allowing the computer to take the place of my brain and am actually learing something from the 'lack of knowledge' that cause me to look up the word in the first place.

Hey Wayne, not far from my home is a 4x4 tractor made out of two Farmall H's. I don't mean two H's hooked together...it's got a center joint that articulates and oscillates, powered by a 350 Chevy. I believe he had to take out the rear differential and flip it over so everything turned in the same direction. It looks like a miniature 3588... the guy who built it couldn't read or write. Fritz

Hey Ken,
We downloaded Foxfire, but the page is so small along with the printing, how can we fill up the screen that makes the printing larger? So far I haven"t found spell checker on it, but we used to have it on the old dell, it also had Foxfire. Thanks,
Victor & LOU

In Firefox hold the Ctrl key down and press the + key repeatedly until the text is comfortable for you to read.

We all are learning to spell with ie spell checker, definitely different, the older fire fox version on our Dell underlined the wrong spelled words in red.Made it easier for Pop to correct his lettering. This might work for him, at least I (Victor) won't be Websters dictionary for spelling words.LOL.Came a long way from crayons-charcoal.LOL Thanks for the help guys,
Regards,
Victor & LOU.

Thanks Roy,
We tried it, and per our luck with computers, it didn't work out for us, so we go rid of fire fox went back to I E and added I E spell. Appreciate the help.
Regards, LOU

Fritz NOW that sounds like a well self educated gentleman. One to be admired. I had a friend who got killed in a hunting accident ,that couldn't read or write. but could tear down a dozer, log skidder for the logging out fit he worked for. One smart Cookie, Still miss his company. Regards, LOU

Lou,

You set your font size in the Firefox preferences. Go to Edit->Preferences->Content and change your default font size. I use 14 points.

In the same dialog, click Languages->Choose... and make sure "English/United States [en-us]" is first, followed by "English [en]". Otherwise I think it will use British spelling for spell check.

To turn on spell check, click the "Advanced" tab in the Preferences dialog and make sure "Check my spelling while I type" is checked. Close your preferences and you should be all set.

Don't you remember that we are first cousins Dave, not brothers. You should since you're also my brother in law. I try to forget that so maybe you do also.

where are you? Us kids were born in Parkersburg by default (closer than the hospitals in Ohio) but Mom's side of the family is from the west union area (Greenbriar Co?)....

Just remember that spell check is only as good as the input.

Pare a pair of pears for me please.
Too, to, two.
Their, there, they're.

Unfortunately in today's modern world young reporters and editors don't always have the proper knowledge which allow errors to get published.

South of Ripley, joking around with buckeyes all the time and they sling it back. Spent time in Germany also. US army put me up in a nice motel, just couldn't check out when I wanted and no privite room. Didn't use spell checker so you got me if there's a mistake.

Lou, Don't you just like it when you ask a question on this sight and no one can give you the answer? Instead, you get everything but the answer.

I go back to when computers didn't have a mouse. You had to do everything with commands. First you hit the Ctrl, control, key and then pressed another key for copy, paste, cut, print and ect.

Try this. Use whatever computer program you have, works, word, note pad.... Write what you want to post, spell check and grammar check it. Then go to the tool bar and click on edit. Next click on select all. Then click on copy. Go to this web sight and click in the comments box where you want to print your reply. The old school way to paste something is to press the Ctrl key and while holding the Ctrl key down press the letter V. You should see your reply in the comment box. BTW, my key board have these commands on the keys.

There are other old school ways to select and copy. Let me know if you need them.

It would not surprise me if someone doesn't do a spell check and grammar check on this comment:)

I wish that people would try to be kinder to others.
George

Hey Lou, I for one enjoy reading your posts. I don't look for misspelled words, I read what you're talking about. A person would have very little to do if all they had to do was correct someone elses spelling instead of enjoying what they were talking about. As for your question, My computer doesn't have spell check for the internet sites like it does in Word, so if I don't spell it right, I just do the best I can. These computers weren't around when we were plunking on the old typewriters (I couldn't type on them without mistakes either LOL) Just my misspelled thoughts, Keith

Keith .I remember the old UNDERWOOD Type Writer. Gave it to the GOOD WILL. Typed lots of letters and such. Thanks for the memories and the POST Regards LOU.

I write my message on the forum and if I a doubt about some words I copy to Word to spell check and correct then copy back.
As many jokes as are made about spelling doesn"t matter it really does. If you look at the "texting fad" you wonder if in a few years people will neither write or speak, just grunt and point. (Avoid comma splices. :)
