trailer wheels

I want to put 16" wheels on my trailer to use a few truck tire I have. I had my wife call a junk yard with the hole demensions and they said they couldn't do anything without the make, model, and year of the vehicle. Everything on computer and they wouldn't go measure. How can I find out what a 5 lug 5" diameter with a 3" center hole wheel fits?

5x5 is a Chevy pu wheel(a lot of 3500# trailers use this size)I know of no 16" rims in that size.

16" tires are usualy 8 lug, there were a few 6 lug 16" wheels, however I have never seen a 5 lug 16" wheel. Wouldn't make sense to me if I found them, the added weight rating of the bigger tires would not be of value with the lighter rated wheels.

I had a couple 5 hole 16" rims from a chevy pickup that a buddy had. The pickup was one of those with the 5.7 diesel (if memory serves me). I don't know if the pickup came with them or if he scrounged them. They do or did exist.

I don't have any half-ton Ford trucks anymore, but I almost want to say them and Dodge used that pattern also..

I used to have a farm wagon around here that used the same bolt pattern as the Dodge/Ford half ton's, but they had to be "aftermarket" rims for the center hole to be large enough.. stock wheels were just a touch too small in the center hole. (the wagon had 2 rims on it when I got it, had to find 2 more).. The 2 that were on it were 16's, however, I would say they were a bit narrow for most pickup tires..

On another note, a friend of mine has a set of 5-lug 16" wheels (but I know he won't let loose of em, he might need em someday) I had em on my half ton Ford for a bit, I bought a decent set of tires cheap at a sale, then realized I should have paid attention, they were 16's, not 15's, so he borrowed me the rims while I wore the tires out..

He also had a set of 8 lug 15 inch wheels laying in the barn.. which to me is rarer yet..

Look around, lots of 5 bolt 16" wheels out there. Recently owned vehicles, sitting side by side in driveway, were GMC K1500 with 5 bolt, Chev G20 van with six bolt, Chev C20 p-up with six bolt, & motor home with 8 bolt, all have 16" tires, although each had different weight ratings.

Some 60s Ford trucks used narrow 5 lug 16s. The old Broncos also used this same rim early on. They usually hard 650 16 to 750 16 tires. In my experience, most trailers seem to be either chevy or ford patterns.

Old Fords through 1996 used 5 on 5.5 pattern. Dodge used this pattern through the 90's although they preiously used a smaller bolt circle. Jeep CJs used this pattern and had a large center hole. Most of the trailer hubs I have seen needing the larger center hole have been 5 on 5.5 rather than 5 on 5 or 5 on 5.25.

That was standard on both Ford cars and 1/2 ton trucks. 5 on 5 1/2" spacing and that is the same as any new 5 lug implement wheel. Dodge ( Chrysler products) and AMC had 5 lug on 5" spacing and I have a few of those 16" wheels, fit a wagon I have.
