Just when my Friday afternoon was going pretty good, [b:654c4848f0]glennster[/b:654c4848f0] decided to spring a <a href="http://www.isi.org/quiz.aspx?q=FE5C3B47-9675-41E0-9CF3-072BB31E2692&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1">civics pop test</a> on me.

Next to Dr. Phil, Jerry Springer, and the 3 Stooges, [b:654c4848f0]glennster[/b:654c4848f0] is one of the wisest fellows I know so I felt obligated to complete the test.

<big>[i:654c4848f0]WARNING: This exam asks questions concerning politics and religion that may not be appropriate or suitable for all members on this forum and may get "poofed".[/i:654c4848f0]</big>

There are 3 things to remember while taking the test;

<blockquote><li>1. No help from your wife, girlfriend, or significant other.</li>

<li>2. This isn't <s>jealousy</s>, <s>leprosy</s>, jeopardy so answers aren't in the form of a question.

<li>3. Can't remember the third item; OOPS!</li></blockquote>

Post your final score at your own risk.

Have fun and good luck!

27 of 33 Never elected to public office myself.

I found a couple of the questions worded in a difficult manner.

Missed 2; didn't pay any attention to who was the force behind the exam, but based on the questions, I sensed a definite agenda.........

Missed 3- Jefferson letters, Lincoln-Douglas debates, and Socrates and the other old dudes. Was pleased that I got everything from the past 150 years right.

Quiz is tough, but a good challenge. College educators only averaged 55% correct? Now, that's scary. . .

James / Glennster.

I got 31 of the 33 correct and frankly, I could argue about the other two based on the wording of the questions and answers.

Nice review of stuff. Thanks for the link.

I got 26 right.
The wording on a few of them made it tough.

Some of those I guessed, like the Federalist question and the debate between Lincoln and whats his name in 1858.

It would be nice to take all my knowledge that I have now and go back to high school.....I had fun in H.S. 25 years ago.

(sigh) You're painfully close to the truth. As we geezers are fond of saying, "Your knowledge consists of what you have learned over the years, minus what you have since forgotten. When you get into negative numbers, you better have somebody making sure you don't just wander off."

Actually, I'm encouraged that the rank and file got 49%- I've long felt that the great unwashed were more clueless than that. What really bothers me is that the college professors only beat the proletariat by 6%- I thought profs were supposed to be a "cut above", and I'd hoped that the cut was a little bigger than that. . .

Why send Johnny off to college, if the professors are not as smart as the guys on the YTMAG board? And apparently, they're not!

"What really bothers me is that the college professors only beat the proletariat by 6%"

Have you looked in a college classroom lately? Chances are good you'll have trouble understanding the professor because of the thick accent...

James.
And the political science profs.
Or is that an oxymoron?
Mike WA,
Dunno about the 49 and 55% though.
That seems a bit contrived.
I would expect the YTmaggers to do pretty well though.
Better than average group here.

No, that comes from the quiz result itself- average folks scored 49%, college profs scored 55%.

Read it and weep.

Missed one. Sad part is, now I can't remember which one. Agree that some of the questions could have been worded better.

They said I missed 2. One was the one that asked how a leevy was "Public Good". The other was about if government spending equals taxes, and I said there is zero debt. They say I'm wrong. I still contend that if government spending is equal to taxes, there is zero debt.

Got 27 out of the 33, and a couple of the missed ones were stupid mistakes that I knew the right answer for and then questioned myself. Either way, not to shabby for a redneck Southern boy...

Were they the one about how a Leeve is public good and if taxes equal government spending? Those are the two I missed, and I stand by if taxes equal government spending the debt would be zero. I might stand by the other one, yet, I don't remember what my answer or theirs were.

Funny how politics makes some people stupid. I read many books by Garrison Keillor. He is brillant. No one can write about rural life with his flare, yet, the moment he begins to talk about politics he babbles on. It has little to do with who he supports. It is how he supports them. If I never heard a political view of his, or how he saw our history, I would only know him for his great writing.

I got 28 out of 33, I was homeschooled and didn't go to college. Interesting quiz for sure. I had never heard of the thing about FDR and unconstitutionality before.

I got 32 out of 33. I am a serious American History buff. I enjoy reading about the why and how our government came about. I like to read about the men that shaped this great nation. They where not perfect but they did have the pubic good in their hearts. That is what is missing today in the majority of our politicians. Too many of them are just padding their own pockets.

I think that the last question about taxes and spending being equal has two answers. To me the no debt is the better of the two.

Enjoyed the Quiz! Got 25 correct answers. I'm afraid this is insufficient to qualify for US citizenship. However, being a born and bred Dutchman and living in The Netherlands, will this score allow me to continue as poster on YTMAG?
Thanks, Hendrik

That would be true only if the government does not already have debt on the books. As far as I know, that has never happened in the history of the US.

Bob...........do a little research on Mr. Keillor and find out where he was/what he was doing during the Vietnam war while 58,000-plus American servicemen were being killed and 150,000 were being wounded. I"m no fan............

You got 66 2/3 %. College profs got 55%, rank and file folks got 49%.

Guess I wouldn't get too concerned, if I were you. And is it just my imagination, or am I seeing more and more short busses all the time?

possible marks 1155- 100%
the number on here who responded was 35.
the score was 996
the average is 86.23 percent.
How does that sound.?
