Vinyl Siding

I had insulated vinyl siding installed on the house over the shingles last month above the brick. The siding was made by Crane and they also make plumbing supplies. The styrofoam was attached to the siding that was about 18 inches high and 12 feet long.

This was left over and I installed it on my mini-barn. My wife helped with the 12-foot pieces of siding. I will post some pics of the house later. Hal

Looks good. You live in Aberdeen or just close by? Got a couple buddies there. One on Kretlow Drive and one at Swan Street.

I have used left over vinyl siding on deer stands and fish houses, very reasonable and works well. Lately I have made my own corners out of sheet metal as the factory corners are expensive and vulnerable to damage on a fish house. You have to be a little careful in cold weather but if one piece gets damaged it can be replaced when it's warm.

I'm in Bel Air now. Back in the mid 1950's after I was discharged from the Army I lived between Aberdeen and Havre De Grace. I had an Aberdeen phone number and a Havre De Grace mailing address. I was rehired back at Aberdeen Proving Ground as a returning vet when I was discharged.

I didn't like Aberdeen's Elementary School that was on Route 40 and wanted our daughter to attend Bel Air High School. We moved to Bel Air in 1962. Hal

The corner pieces were all used and if you look close I used left over pieces that were used around the windows. The siding on the house was installed by a company out of PA called Install America. Hal

We go thru there when we are going to pick peaches or apples near Fawn Grove. We sometimes ate at that restaurant on the corner. I think they had a fire there. They had good club sandwiches. Hal

Vinyl isn't final. I have vinyl on many rental houses and many small storage sheds, thinking I'll never have to paint them again. Stones from mowers, weed wackers, baseballs, golf balls, dogs did the most damage, hail, and the list of things that has damaged my siding goes on. Go to replace a small section and you find out just how much the sun has bleached it. Once a year I have to bleach all my vinyl siding, which takes about 8 days to do, because it grows green, brown, and black stuff, depending on the location on the house or shed.

Hopefully you won't have that problem.

Nothing to do with siding, but I wanted to tell you that I was at Aberdeen Proving Ground for AIT in Mar till June 1964. Took the Fuel&Electrical Repairmans course. MOS 634.10 then, later changed to 63G20. Went from there to Germany for the rest of my hitch. Beat heck out of Viet Nam.

They moved that school from APG to Ft Lee VA. It was there for years. I worked in that restricted area behind the fence. 1964 was busy place at APG. Hal

Hi George, Are you still busy in your machine shop? I haven't seen Rodney in a long time. He usually did my machining when I was working on those old StandardTwin garden tractors. He was with Kunkle's back then. He bored a Chevy 283 block for me back in 1978. It used oil I should've used moly rings. Hal

Hi Hal,

Busy enough , have several engines to
bore and build , several manifolds to weld
and repair, actually been quite busy with the
cast iron welding . Rodney sent me a 2 cyl
deere to bore as his bar is not long enough.
Chinese buffet in your neighborhood closed
so I have not been in you territory for a
while.

Wether you used moly rings or not should not
make any difference as either set of SP would
have the same oil ring ( the SS-50) and that
is one of the best in the car and light truck
world.
