For some light hearted fun for a change, those dern electrical posts get all cornfused n complicated and people get to feuding lol I try my best but would never make it as a teacher NOT ENOUGH PATIENCE

Heading out to todays Country with some Bluegrass Jam, we start at 3 then stop n eat a pitch in at 5, then play till 7 or later.. LOTS OF FUN

Im NOT a singer butttttttttt I do sing (and play) in good time Ive been told, I listen to that bass and rhythm guitar and let him roll through the breaks and give me turn arounds or lead ins and come in at JUST THE RIGHT TIME. I used to think its hard to play with someone who cant play in time butttttttttt I found it even worse and harder to accompany someone WHO CANT SING IN TIME GRRRRRRRRRRRR songs have natural rhythms and breaks and pauses the singer is supposed to take while the rhythm section rolls through and comes in. HOWEVER its the bands job to back up the singer so we have to get to or go wheres hes at REGARDLESS

Heres a few of the songs I butcher up

Uncloudy Day
Washed in the Blood of the Lamb
Wreck of the Old 97
Katie Daley
Dooley
Glory Glory Glory (Somebody touched me)
Long Black Veil
Carrol County Accident
Old Rocking Chair
Lifes Highway to heaven (life is like a Mtn
railroad)
I saw the Light
I'll Fly Away
Do Lord Oh Do Lord

A few of the ones I try to pick on the 5 string

Cripple Creek (first song you learn on a banjo)
Banjo in the Hollow
Foggy Mtn Breakdown
Old Home Place
Will the Circle be Unbroken
Old Spinning Wheel
My Grandfathers Clock
Dear Old Dixie

See yall, best wishes

Nice list John. You mention Country but I would class most of those tunes as bluegrass or gospel.

Group I play in does many of the same tunes as we entertain in nursing homes.

We call it Life's RAILWAY rather than HIGHWAY.

Eat a "pitch in" is probably the same as what we call a pot luck. Correct?

Glad you're havin' fun. I really enjoy what we do too.

Hello John T,
There is never been a bad day of jamming music,
SOOOOOOOOOO have fun!
P.S. Make sure to have yourself grounded, those ELECTRIC instruments may not be........ HA! HA!

Thats the song I butcher, yep the Dillards were on Andy Griffith, they played the "Darlings"

Go to You Tube and search Darlings or Andy Griffth

Well, I guess you're all done pickin' and grinnin' by now. I'm sure you enjoyed yourself. I bough a Silvertone guitar from Sears & Roebuck when I was young but never learned to play it. Not enough patience. Still have the guitar but my son let it get damp and some of the glue seams are separating.
I had never heard a meal called a "pitch in" either.I enjoy reading posts such as this because you learn what things are called in different parts of the country.

You can go to a jam about every night of the week here in central in. anymore, i go quit a bit but not all of them. lot's of fun for an old picker, we play all of the songs mentioned, plus more, & the 90 year old fiddler i play with plays a lot of old jigs & rags & waltzes also, he used to play for square dances, which i never hear of live music anymore when they square dance. i have slowed down, had rotator cuff surgery 4 mo. ago tried to learn the harmonica while i was down, not much luck, play a lot on the mandolin now, don't hurt arm as much as the guitar does, still trying to sing though. Keep on pickin'
