Illinois legislature just voted to give them a tax incentive to keep some of their headquarters in the state. THEN Sears announced the closings. Sounds fishy coming and going. With our crooked history, one can't help thinking that somebody(s) got his pockets lined. . .

A IL law maker that gave them the deal stated they were tricked into the million dollar tax deal. Surprise surprise surprise statement from Gomer Plile TV show. Question how much did the IL law maker pocket from the bag men?? No change in dealing in ILLINOIS even with Bago getting 14 years and Ryan with in the slammer.

Sears and Kmart are dinosaurs.
My wife despises Kmart and Sears was a good place to buy tools/stuff. The Craftsman name is now Crapsman to me.
My wife told me 2 days ago that when she went Christmas shopping she had to wait for a long time in a checkout line. (because employees dont give a rip about you). Customer service line is too long, people have other options, like Walmart, Meijer, on-line shopping. etc. I have not been in a Kmart in many years, or a Sears for that matter either.

Well, that kinda creates a vacuum.. Looks like they're closing both my nearest sears stores..

Now I'll have to go to the "big city" (AnnArbor) to exchange my tools..

Guess I'm done buying Craftsman stuff now.. (not that I have bought or exchanged much in the last 3-4 years)

I'm in the process of buying new tools from NAPA. Yea it's expensive but so is a 25 mile drive one way when I've got field work to do. Napa is about 6 miles.

Very suprised they aren"t dropping several in central/west Michigan. They already closed one in Ionia. There are several small stores in the area facing stiff competition from Meijers, Walmart, and frankly, they"re not up to it.

Is Illinois really that corrupt? I think Wisconsin is the same and they get away with it, in Illnois they get caught. Some of the stuff our previous Governer pulled, the state is committed to long term deals at really high prices, all with folks that supported his election and look how the people that bought him off are behaving towards the the new guy, they figure they should get the same consideration from the new guy they didn't support that they had from the old guy. And now we have a county trying to pass a county wide referendum to make state law/policy.

If I remember correctly, Sears is (or was) headquartered in Chicago, and so with their huge facilities would have a very big tax base presense in Illinois.
