tire sticker shock

I last looked at Tucker Tire about a year ago, when I told my local shop their prices, he matched them, just to get a sale. So last night, I thought of them again, went to the e bay store... wow. Some one put a '$2' infront of last years prices. Inflation is one thing, 700 to 2700 in a mater of months just doesn't sound right. I might go down to my local shop and bring home whatever he has left at reasonable prices... for an investment? Sounds better than real estate at these rates... or is this now like a penny auction? You just bid what you want to pay??? and disregard the buyt it now price? I dunno...

You sure you're not exaggerating a bit?

Tire prices have gone up, but not by almost 400%. Maybe double, at most.

You sure you're not looking at the price of a pair instead of one? Free shipping? Tucker likes to toss in that free shipping every once in a while, which actually jacks the cost of the tires by a few hundred $$$.

Got "sticker shock" last week when I took my 97 F350 with 7.3 diesel in for an oil change.

New oil filter, new fuel filter and oil change cost me $168.00. Gagged and choked. Last time I had it changed at that place it cost me $100.00.

Also found a different place to get it done. I bring my own filters and they charge $60.00 to change the oil.

Yes a pair, mounted and shipped... that's not the issue- 2000 bucks more for the set than last spring is the issue. Check out their ebay store, see if I am missing something.
The way I 'saw' it- for $800 a pair- shipping 100? tubes 50? mounting 50? 2 imported rims 200? so 200 each for an Indian or Chinese tire sounded right. I could buy Goodyear/titan for 250, tube for 25, mount for another 25... just up the road. I am stopping in there this afternoon. Just incase this is a national trend.

So anyway, tires near me, and Tucker's ebay store... are still reasonable- if you look deep enough. My guy called a slew of wholesalers to find me some 12x28 8 plys for 3 and change, and on page 11(!!)... of their ebay store, are the Tucker tires closer to what I remember.... so another threat to civilization has been averted... for now...
btw, IN March? the local dealer wanted to sell me a pair of 28's, I only bought one, the mate is still there... at the price I offered last year. Not exactly hoarding, but I can't resist a bargain... I quit worrying about the shelf life of tire, if I live long enough for them to go bad, I'll be happy to deal with it when the time comes...

I have a 99 f-350 7.3 dsl. local ford dealership charges $85.00 for service, also gives comp. wash job.

Tony.. Tires are up no question about it ...But we live less than an Hour from Tucker tire. Lots going on down there. tree brothers and an old dad. Can,t get it all worked out. One of the brothers has went out and formed Triple T tire and getting a lot of the local bussiness. They have had the farm tire bussiness in the area for years. Big truck tires jumped about a $ 100.00 each Julu the first. I was told O bama put a tarif on the chinese tires made the price go up.
who knows Goodyear and Firestone have both closed big plants here in Ten in the last year.
