Battery charger?

I have a Craftsman Drill/Saw set that I bought when they first came out several years ago. The batteries have come & gone & I have had them rebuilt a couple of times but now the charger seems to have gone sour. The drill & saw still work OK so I want to keep using them. When I put a battery in the charger it just blinks red which indicates the battery is defective. However 1 battery is new & another one was just rebuilt by Batteries Plus.
Sears doesn't have the chargers anymore.
Does anyone know where I can get a charger for the older Craftsman 18V NiCad batteries?

Check the ratings on present charger. Most any wall charger of similar ratings will probaably get you by.

I've long thought that battery chargers connecters should be made to a couple of standard sizes, or someone should make a charger with connecters for all sizes.

I know this doesn't help you with your problem but thats exactly why I quit buying Craftsman battery operated tools. Instead of producing interchangeable chargers and battery's they seem to change them all the time. Seemed like when battery would go bad you couldn't just go buy a new one. They would change them around so the new model wasn't interchangeable with the older tools. I started using the Ryobi stuff that home depot sells and the problem went away. I just walked into the store a couple of weeks ago and brought a 18 volt battery for my 10 year old drill. The same battery works in the drill I brought a year ago. Ryobi tools are probably not good enough for a professional but they work good enough for me and the price is right. Just my humble opinion.

Vern,
Your first mistake is thinking that your new battery is good. Brother bought 2 new batteries from sears and both were bad.

Go to ebay, buy a Li-ion or Ni-MH, and find a charger that will work on the new batteries. Your old battery charger won't charge the newer batteries. My choice is Ni-MH.

If that doesn't work, I would make my own charger using a good 18 v charger, and running the wires from the good charger to the battery holder on your old charge.

Best bet is to go to ebay and make an investment.

Sometimes, you may watch sears and find a complete kit with batteries, charger and new tools cheaper than you can fix your problem. It just depends on how many old tools you have if it's worth it.

I've have way too many dewalt tools not to up grade my batteries.

DoubleR, The same is true with dewalts. I've been using dewalts for about 15 years. Their new batteries will work in my old tools. However, you need a new charger, which is better than any old Ni-cd charger, to charge Li-ion and Ni-MH batteries. Charger on ebay was around $30. My last Ni-MH battery was $45.

Battery's/chargers, different for different
tools...no standard? What do you expect from a
company that buys from the lowest bidder, and
changes suppliers when ever it can weasel a cheaper cost from a different vender?

Used on E-bay & maybe Craig's List. New from Sears, K-Mart, & Ace Hardware.

I'll second the red and black Li-Ion chargers handle batteries from 14.4 to 19.2 volts Li-ion & Ni-Cd. Model #315.259260 is one that works well.
