Replacing gauges on Oliver 77 RC with correct ones. Existing gauges work fine and plan on reusing them in some other equipment.

Issue is Temp Gauge. Where the sensor mounts in the block I cannot get a good bite with open end wrench. Wanting to reuse the gauge but not wishing to cut the wire to put on a socket or box end wrench.

Wife is laughing at how cheap I am being. My question is this - If wire is cut can it be soldered back together and be reused or once cut it is no good. This is the wire from sensor running to gauge.

You need to find a line or tubing wrench, you more than likely have seen them befor. Just a heavy duty box end wrench with a slot cut in the end for the line to pass through.

I would say that if you cut it it will be junk. If the line wrendh doesn't work you can try a good vice grip. A little heat may help. Also tell your wife you are not cheap you are frugel. lol

NO, it's not a wire, it's a capillary TUBE filled with gas. Good luck saving it. Lots of times the sensor ends up turning with the nut and you ruin it anyway.

You both beat me to it. Trouble is,it'll probably cost more than the guage is worth when it comes right down to it.

i always had good luck soaking them with kroil letting set a day or 2 and using a crows foot wrench

Thanks fellas !
Completely forgot about line wrenches. I have a crows foot but does not get a good grip.

Never hurts to have another tool :)

Soak with your favorite juice for a couple of days, get a line wrench on it, give it a couple of small twists, soak some more, a few more twists with the line wrench. If or when it breaks loose the bulb will twist with it and the capillary tube will twist off unless you're luckier than me. Jim

If you haven't yet rounded the corners, take a box end wrench and, using a hand grinder, slot the box end wide enough to slip over the wire or tube or whatever. Choose a place for the slot so the six corners will still engage. Clamp a pair of vise grips tightly onto the weakened box end to hold it from spreading.
