Farmall H condenser

I asked last year or so about my H stalling after 10- 20 minutes
Of running, wait a few and it would start up again and run for a bit. I was told the coil was prolly bad. I went to farm store bought coil and guy said thats what he thought it might be. So new coil, rebuild starter , new battery. Same thing quits after 10-20 minutes. I was ticked, I don't have time to mess with this tractor. So I was thinking about the condenser, If I remember right a coil will work or not work, but a condenser just goes bad? Anybody have any ideas again? Carb seems fine.

I can't say what your problem is - but I've had to fix many a car and tractor with intermittent coil problems. When coils go, they often start giving trouble when hot. Then when cool, will often work fine again.

That's what I thought, so i got a new coil from LJ hand, but it does the same thing, I'll try a condenser this spring, and hope that works.

You sure it isn't the fuel? Like a plugged gas cap vent. Our H did the same thing. Was really irritating being we was using it on the silo blower. One time we removed the cap just to check the level and it went fooom as the vacuum was released. Cleaned the cap vent hole and was back in business.

Trouble shoot before throwing parts at it or you will be going the wrong way fast. Run it and when it dies first off check your spark. You should have a spark that jumps a 1/4 inch or more but I'll bet that is not it. Almost bet you will find either a plugs tank vent or a plugged fuel line. I had the same sort of problem with my Farmall BA and guess what I found... In the tank was a lief that would float over the hole and clog it up. It would stop and the lief would float back off and it would run well for a bit and then same thing

Ok, I'd have to check the spark, but what kind of gas problem could there be? I checked screen in carb and it was clean! Maybe something is wrong with the carb.?? Thanks J

Nothing wrong with the carb if it will run for 10 to 20 minutes. Have you cleaned the screen in the sediment bowl? Have you looked in the gas tank to make sure you don't have a foreign, floating object in there? Is the vent hole in the gas cap plugged? Try running it with the gas cap loose, or even removed.

Its "possible" a coil or condesnor (like some other electrical components) can work and test fine when cool but start causing problems ONCE WARMED UP. If points are badly burned or pitted thay can be problematic also!!!

A simple low voltage continuity/charging/kickback test on a condensor or a coil can sure show if its BAD but just because it passes that DOES NOT PROVE ITS GOOD because HV insulation breakdown and other problems may ONLY show up once its hot!!!!!!

Right when it fails you need to pull a plug or coil wire and see if its still throwing a good blue spark orrrrrrrrr if its starved for gas????

If the gas is fine (I suspect) but no spark and you alreay have a new coil Id try a new condensor as they are so cheap and easy to change. Also insure the points arent burned or pitted or carboned up AS THAT CAN CAUSED A PROBLEM BIG TIME

Check the spark first. Could always go to solid state ignition. Otherwise you may have something in your gas tank that plugs the hole, pull the sediment bowl off and see if gas runs out good.

A condenser will act up in 5 miuutes. It can mimic a gas problem.Back firing when a condenser fails is common but my JD backfires when I shut off the gas and let it idle.I have seen many Farm Alls with a stand pipe in the gas tank.Put in to keep trash out of the gas line.If it sticks up beyond the gas level the engine will shut down.Tank looks like theres plenty of gas.
