I was on the television...

more of a background thing...

HAHA
Antiques Roadshow!

I'm wearing the dark blue shirt, blond hair and bald. I was in the background during the entire segment. It was a long day of walking and standing in lines, but I did get to meet a few celebrity appraisers, so it was definitely worth it. Also, I got to be on TV. I took my mother to the show, to have her mother's watch appraised, and her father's drumset. The watch was worth $2500, and the drumset they couldn't put a value on, because they hadn't seen another like it. go figure!

Funny to see yourself on TV. It was the first time it ever happened to me on a national TV show. I didn't realize how big my bald spot was!

At least in this screen capture I was smiling! I started to notice a while ago that the people standing in lines in the background usually make funny faces because they don't realize they are on camera. I was partially aware of the guitar behind me, but had no idea it would air on TV.

here's a link to the video of that appraisal.

My mother did yell at me today for standing with my hands in my pockets. She said I looked like a bum. haha I've officially embarassed my mother on national TV.

i watched that show tonight. it was from pittsburgh. i saw the lady who bought a straight pin for a dollar at a yardsale and was worth something like 1500 bucks. i never would have luck like that. i would pay 1500 dollars and it would be worth a buck.

Some lady tonight had a 17th century carved rhinoceros horn- worth $350,000. Her dad bought it for a buck at a garage sale.

When I buy something for a dollar, I just hope I didn't make too big a mistake. . .

Watched ARS this evening, Always interesting. My grand daughter and I attended the Tulsa show. I was picked out to be taped. Quite an experience. I"ll say this about the ARS. They certainly know how to "do" a show like that. They had 6000 folks that Sat. in Tulsa. I was then on the first show in 2012 and was the second "antique" shown. I had carved a cane for Mother Teresa and she sent me a thank you note. That was what I was interviewed about. The lady that followed me on the show sat next to me in the queue chair line. The fellow that had the highest dollar valued antique ever on ARS ($1- 1.5 million) was sitting about three feet from me in the queue line. He came on the show about halfway thru the show. All the ARS can be viewed by going to "Antique Road Show/PBS" and clicking on "Tulsa No. 1" show. It was a very interesting day for my grand daughter and me.

Talk about a face made for radio... Just kiddin....

At least you weren't front and center on the camera describing what a tornado sounds like

"It was pandamonium!!!I looked out the window just in time to see the neighbor's house trailer flyin by.... First thing crossed my mind was, Charlonda just borrowed my crockpot yesterday...."

I talked to her! She thought that rhino horn was worth $1000-2000 tops! The question I have is:

Once you know it is worth $400,000, how the heck do you get it home? How do you handle it?

I would probably crap my pants and carry a gun! Jeez!

She was so nice! Look for the upcoming Pittsburgh Episodes for the guy with the headshop sign. It's a piece of rotting plywood, but the art was done by Crumb. They said it could be worth as much as $20,000. It's a piece of plywood!

He was super nice to talk to. I'd like to meet him again. I liked him. He was very cool. Then again, anyone with a sign for a weed smoking joint is probably pretty cool! hahaha

To think of all those hippies smoking pot, that someday their stupid sign would be worth $20,000. It's insane!

I know! I did look like a neanderthal! I laughed so hard when I saw it! In real life, I'm not that strange looking I hope!

It really was a fun time though!

jeez, a celebrity was on ARS, and my wife was busy clicking back and forth between the stupid "voice" and the annoying dog show. next time, have your agent get the publicity out sooner.....lol

I've heard that after their appraisers tell you your antique's worth a "king's ransom" they want to sell you insurance to cover it. That would be an ulterior motive to price it high. Wonder if anyone actually gets their kind of estimate if they sell?

Some old gal brought in an old child's desk- had come down through the family, kids had used it for playing school and coloring, etc.

Turned out to be an uber-rare Chippendale- they said it was worth $500,000. She snorted, and said "Great, lets sell it."

Cut to Sotheby's or Christy's or some other famous auction- she ended up getting $540,000, and nearly had a stroke.

WOW! I thought there was a economic downturn going on! What would anyone do with a $540,000 child's desk? And I wonder if the seller reported the capital gains on his income tax?

I really like the Gibson ES. Nothing personal, but I can't see anyone or a thing past that. That's pretty sharp. Probably not less than $2,500. In shape it appears to be in from what I can see in the picture, could be well over $10,000 depending on the year. She's pretty sweet looking, and bet she sounds a ton sweeter. Thanks for sharing that.

I was chatting up the blonde!

how did you guess? I have a way with the ladies!

It was such a fun time.

I met a few really nice people, and got a few laughs for my antics.

I also used my new found celebrity status to get a free sandwich at primanti bros. That was worth it!

Primantis should be a life requirement for everyone. You get a sandwich with fries and coleslaw on homemade bread. It tastes like heaven, if heaven had coleslaw.

If anyone comes to pittsburgh, please look me up, I will buy you a sandwich. The coleslaw is german style, vinegar and oil. The fries and bread are fresh cut. It's one of those things you have to experience before you die.

I reccomend the hot sausage or the capacola and egg. Just be sure to get your egg made runny. It's like custard on a sandwich. It's the best!
